From the publisher
A battle on the streets of New York. The armies of the night number 60,000 strong, and tonight they’re all after The Warriors-- a street gang wrongly accused of killing a rival gang leader. The Warriors must make their way from one end of New York to their turf on the other side of the city. All that stands between The Warriors and their survival are 20 miles and thousands of street gang members. The army of gangs owns the streets and there’s no turning back, they must fight for their lives and learn the meaning of loyalty as danger and uncertainty emerge from the city night.

Rockstar Games proudly presents The Warriors for the PlayStation®2 based on the 1979 Paramount Pictures cult classic movie. Developed by Rockstar Toronto, The Warriors expands the stylized cinematic journey of the film into a gritty interactive experience set in 1970s New York.

NCS Game Notes
* The game starts off like a movie with the Paramount logo and titling of a film. Rockstar modeled the introduction of the actual movie beautifully with a lighted ferris wheel, train sequences, a subway map, short scene scenes of the various gangs heading towards the big meet, and short dialogue scenes between the Warriors. The likenesses of the gangsters are also fairly accurate and well done.

* The three difficulty levels in the game are Sucker, Bopper, and Hardcore Soldier. There's an option to turn on subtitles in case the speech is unintelligible.

* The game starts off at the big gang meet and the camera focuses on the Warriors and pans across the crowd before Cyrus starts squawking his speech which is perfectly spooled from the movie. Can you dig it?

* After Cyrus is shot, the game flashes back to Rembrandt's induction into the Warriors where the player takes over and proves his street skills by beating up on a few volunteer bums. The control feels floaty. Rembrandt has a good amount of moves at his disposal including combos, strong attacks, and even a graffiti spray blast. The bums shuffle around like zombies... The gang initiation ends when three members of the Warriors tackle Rembrandt but they're fairly easy to beat down with the tricks learned during the bum battle.

* Later on, Rembrandt has to perform the following tasks on Coney Island: Smash into a store and grab items, break into a car and steal the car radio, mug a person that's leaving a phone booth. After buying flash from the dealer, it's possible to mug him and take $10 from his pockets.

* The next portion of the game gives players the control over Warlord and he has to rustle up the rest of the Warriors because the Destroyers have firebombed their hangout. They find Ajax molesting a girl in an alley. After rounding everyone up, they throw down against a bunch of Destroyers and eventually hit the Destroyers' headquarters with a little graffiti bombing payback.

* The four letter word is used liberally during the dialogue scenes. Colorful language and lingo also peppers conversations.

* In order to replenish cash, the fastest and easiest way is by mugging bums. They're fairly prevalent and stumble around without much rhyme or reason. Surprisingly, every vagrant has at least $1 and some even have $4. Occasionally, there are pedestrians wandering around who will give up $60 when mugged. Breaking into stores and plucking items from broken glass enclosures will also garner a healthy hoard of cash.

* Fans of Rockstar's Manhunt will feel right at home when playing the night time levels where players creep up on gang members and incapacitate them, run around a crummy neighborhood, and fight during the twilight hours. The moody music, chain link sound effects and random conversations add to the Manhunt-like atmosphere.
