NCS Game Notes
* Europe 300 BC - The first chapter takes place on Sparta where Roman soldiers are invading. King Leonidas of Sparts called on untrained soldiers to defend the land. "Return with shields or upon them." The forces of Sparta are within an encampment as they listen to a speech from Leonidas. Ares speaks to a warrior and vows to aid him in defending Sparta and uses him as a vessel upon which to exact revenge on the Romans. General Crassus on the side of the Romans are on the offensive against the city of Sparta after the rest of Greece has fallen to their power.

* The first battle is a chaotic assault confrontation where armies of Spartans face off against the invading Romans. The objective is to destroy the centurions first by hitting them back with a shield (L2 + X) and then slashing when they're down. It's possible to regain health points at altars by standing in front of them and holding the SQUARE button which slowly retrieves the health. Arrows are available to shoot at foes as well as slashing attacks, whirling attacks, and duck 'n roll moves to avoid blows. When shooting arrows, they can be fired in rapid sequence to take down dozens of Roman soldiers at once. When an enemy soldier or centurion is down, walk over to him and press the "SQUARE" button to perform an execution.

* After the three centurians are killed and the three siege towers are blown up, follow Castor and Pollux into the next field to destroy the Roman armies that have assembled there and are giving fellow Spartans a whipping. After destroying the legions, the Romans use Talos - a huge metal mechanical man - in an attempt to storm the city. Siege engineers are also afoot, who are trying to blow up the gates. To counter them, tip over cauldrons of boiling oil to stop the siege engineers and use three catapults to topple Talos. Both mechanisms are tripped by pressing the SQUARE button. The Talos requires at least three hits from the catapults before it is toppled while the engineers needs to be singed about three times as well.

* After the first level, tokens are handed out which may be used to enhance the Spartan hero's Health and Damage points. Any new weapons acquired from the battle are listed on the lower left portion of the screen.

* The next mission features a task where two warriors enter the enemy camp to release prisoners and acquire the Blades of Athena. The tricky part at the outset of the game is to kick open the chest near the enemy installation and light your arrow. Rush back to where the powder kegs are and stand a fair distance away before firing at one of them. The explosion will bust open the enemy gate and allow you and comrade to enter the city.
