Legendary publisher Treasure tries their hand at a "Punch Out" clone featuring manga/animation hero Makunouchi Ippo who trains to become the best boxer Japan has ever seen. Feint, punch and swerve your way to the belt... Game mechanics are rudimentary with B button punches which may be varied by pointing the control pad North, West, South or East. Slap the A button in conjunction with the pad to dodge oncoming blows. Hajime blocks punches automatically when no action is taken which takes a bit of getting used to.

| Hajime No Ippo is a punch-out style boxing game based on an anime/manga of the same name. My love for the anime swung me toward the purchase of it reguardless if the game was good or not. Little did I know that this game is developed by the infamous Treasure Video Games. Everything about this game is just awesome. Simple to play, easy controls, the graphics look better than most psx games, same voice actors from the tv series, along with signature moves and saying. For any Hajime No Ippo, or a lot of you cult Treasure fans out there, this game should not be one to miss while it's still available. Buy it! |
