Description
Before Seiken Densetsu 2 (Known as Secret of Mana in the USA back in the days of the Super NES) Square released Seiken Densetsu or Final Fantasy Adventure on the original Gameboy. With a multitude of remakes finding new life on the GBA, Square Enix injects some botox into old game code and comes up with a shiny new look for the classic adventure.

First impressions are positive with a beautiful game world to explore, brimming with detailed environments and well defined characters to interact with. Player actions are performed in real-time with your main character issuing sword slashing attacks, combination hacks and other dynamic actions. An improvement is the ability to attack without having to wait to gain stamina. A hero who suffers damage may lie down and snooze for a bit which helps to recover health points and refresh oneself.

In the first battle of the game, the hero and a fellow prison mate are pushed into an arena where the two battle a monstrous beast. The prison mate sorta hides against the wall whiles our hero slashes and avoids laser balls shot out by the creature. After a couple of hacks, the monster succumbs and the "gladiators" are showered with applause and bits of confetti...

Shortly after the arena battle and after a series of events, the hero finds himself in a field with a new friend. Charged with clearing a small field of grass and finding a bunch of items that pop up from the vegetation, the hero will eventually kill cuddly sleeping creatures. We didn't want to strike them dead but our compatriot slashed at them (while they were snoozing) like they were death incarnate. Fairly good animations are shown here where the beasts die and bamf into a skeleton. Some will leave treasure chests which the hero hefts over his head and smashes to the ground in order to open them up. It was on these fields where we figured out how to perform a double spinning slash attack...
