NCS Game Synopsis - Update November 26, 2008
«©NCSX» In Midway's Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe, gamers finally get to answer daunting questions such as, "Can Superman beat Raiden?" and "What happens when Batman meets Kano?" These questions and more will be answered when players get their hands on MK vs DCU for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 in North America and Europe. Generally, games are the same in both territories but there'll be censoring in the U.S. version. To achieve a "Teen" rating in the States, Midway had to edit the Joker's gunshot-in-the-face fatality and Deathstroke's impale-him-then-shoot-him-in-the-head fatailty. Note that Kitana's fan-to-forehead-impaling fatality has been changed in all versions so that her fans are jammed into her opponent's chest. Seeing such heinous fictional acts would apparently traumatize the youth of North America.

Europeans are apparently a more permissive lot as their version of MK vs DCU won't be censored. Both fatalities made it to the production version of the game which arrived yesterday. NCS is currently accepting new orders for the second shipment of MK vs DCU which is scheduled to arrive in the first week of December 2008.

From the Publisher
For the first time ever Scorpion, Sub-Zero and the Mortal Kombat warriors battle with Batman, Superman and other popular DC Universe super heroes. Choose your side and challenge your opponents with an all-new fighting system including Freefall Kombat and Klose Kombat along with dynamic multi-tiered environments. Plus, pick your favorite character from Mortal Kombat or DC Universe and pursue a fighting adventure in the new single player mode with an intertwined storyline and two unique perspectives.

Game Features
* Choose your kombatant! Kombat forces friends to fight, worlds to collide and unlikely alliances to be forged. Mortal Kombat warriors and DC Universe heroes engage in battle for the first time on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. In the ultimate Elseworlds story, players can now explore what would happen when Sub-Zero faces off against Batman, and much more.

* Signature Attacks. Each character on the Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe roster will feature character-specific moves to take down opponents in their own signature style. Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe will also feature distinct finishing moves, tapping into the true Mortal Kombat experience

* All-New Fighting Mechanics. For the first time in Mortal Kombat history, players can face off with two all-new fighting mechanics, Freefall Kombat and Klose Kombat. Freefall Kombat allows players to battle in mid-air while falling from one arena into the next. Klose Kombat, a brutal up-close fighting mechanic, gives players the ability to grasp the gritty dark tone through progressive damage that is inflicted on fighters during battle though visible bruises, torn clothing, and more!

* New single player mode. Players choose their storyline experience beginning with either the Mortal Kombat or DC Universe. The unique storyline intertwines both the Mortal Kombat and DC Universes and characters into an exclusive dynamic fighting adventure

* The Ultimate Fighting Arenas. Players will face off in various iconic arenas like Metropolis and Gotham City from the DC Universe side and Hell and Graveyard from the Mortal Kombat side, as well as several never-before-seen combo arenas that blend the two universes together!

* Top Writing Talent. The game’s dark, realistic tone is created through the collaborative partnership of top comics writing team Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray (Countdown. Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters) along with veteran Mortal Kombat team members.

* Take the battle online. Players will have the ability to choose sides, challenge friends and take the fight online!

If you have a problem playing this game on your console
Although Playstation 3 games are region-free, if you see an error message when loading the game, this problem is related to the high-definition video output that many PS3 games utilize. When a PAL game is played on a USA or Japanese PS3 console that is connected to a standard television via composite or S-Video cable, you will receive an error message.

There is a work-around for this issue but note that a copy of "Resistance: Fall of Man" or "F1: Championship Edition" is required to perform a boot-swap. We have listed the methods below:

To boot Mortal Kombat vs DCU using the Resistance boot method:
0. Boot Resistance
1. Play a campaign
2. Press START in game (for the pause menu)
3. At the pause menu, eject Resistance disc
4. Insert the Mortal Kombat vs DCU disc
5. Select "Save and quit" from the menu
6. Mortal Kombat vs DCU will boot up

To boot Mortal Kombat vs DCU using the F1: Championship Edition boot method:
0. Boot F1: CE
1. Go to multiplayer menu
2. Select exit to main menu
3. At the confirmation popup, swap the F1: CE disc with Mortal Kombat vs DCU
4. Confirm the pop-up to exit to main menu
5. Mortal Kombat vs DCU will boot

If you have an HDTV in your household, you can also connect the PS3 to that television and the boot methods listed above won't be necessary. The game will boot directly on an HDTV without issues.
