Description
Update: Oct 22, 2004
A couple of weeks ago, we stocked the Saturn USB pad in white which followed the grey debut of the pad in August. Today, we bring in a black variant which pays homage to the original USA Saturn pad from many years ago. Since Sega seems to be covering all color variants according to the Saturn color schemes from yesteryear, we're holding out hope for Skeleton Blue and Skeleton Black pads in the near future.

The Saturn controller was perfect in design, shape, and function and Sega revives the design for a new generation of gamers. The USB Saturn pad is compatible with the Mac OS X (v10.2.8) and Windows (Windows 98SE, ME, 2000, XP) PCs with at least a USB 1.1 port and is auto-detected upon insertion.

GeorgeC (3): The best digital control pad returns in USB form!
If there's one thing Sega got right with all its consoles, it's their control pads! The Saturn in my estimation still has the best digital pad of ANY system to date. It's too bad Sega no longer manufactures consoles but it's great that their classic controller hardware is being re-released for other systems. For emulation fans in particular, this is one of the best controllers you can buy to play any of the long-departed console/arcade games on your PC or Mac. The old Saturn d-pad is still the best I've ever played with for fighting games. This simple but well-shaped d-pad is still by far the slickest for pulling off 360-degree special moves as well as diagonal specials (dragon punches in particular). The controller's 6+2 control configuration is also by far the most versatile for cross-genres, too, as well as being eminently suited for Capcom SFII-style fighting games. It's too bad that this style of controller isn't currently being emulated on the in-production systems. It's much better suited for 2-D fighters than anything officially released by Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft. It's unfortunate that although X-Box's controller comes closest to copying the Saturn design, its six-button layout is at a far less-than-satisfactory angle and that its d-pad is nowhere near as comfortable as the Saturn's.
