Update: December 18, 2003 Our first shipments of the PSX arrived today and the box is massive. While we didn't feel the hankering to open one up, we took a few comparison photos against a standard PS2 console. Despite what Sony has reported, the standard PS2 Dual Shock controller works fine with the PSX and vice versa. A joypad is not included with the PSX but a remote control is - standard PSX controllers will be available for retail sale next week. Essentially a fusion of PS2 console hardware, DVD-recorder and hard drive, the PSX serves as the centerpiece of a home entertainment system with the ability to play games, DVD movies and burn/record new content from hard drive/television. A USB 1.1 port, memory stick reader and Ethernet adapter assure users of data portability to other devices and future expandability. The need to expand is evident with the first revision as the DVD-R only records at 12X but a firmware update will eventually allow the unit to burn at 24X from HDD. Please note the unit is entirely in Japanese with no English menus. Unfortunately, Sony decided to make the unit import unfriendly and we would not recommend purchasing the unit if you are unable to read Japanese. Please note pricing as follows: * DESR-5000 160-gig version - US$820 + shipping. * DESR-7000 250-gig version - US$1010 + shipping. You are ordering the DESR-5000 160-gig model if you add this item to your shopping cart. Orders may be prepaid by credit card, wire transfer or bank cheque. If you opt to place an online order, please note that your credit card will be processed upon checkout. Thanks for reading.
