Namco's evolutionary trajectory takes the simplistic arcade racing found in the Ridge Racer series and bumps it up a notch with a more realistic driving simulation. It ain't in the league of Gran Turismo but it's more satisfying than the last couple of Ridge Racers. Players engage in eight racing styles such as GT racing, drag racing and rally racing across rough terrain and through 14 tracks from real courses and imaginary tracks. An assortment of licensed vehicles are available for the cruising which may be tuned and modified for higher performance levels to take on your ardent competitors. Namco touts an "Interactive Driver AI System" where rival drivers react to your position and proximity during a race. Tail a touchy driver long enough and you might be able to cause him to falter and skid against roadside scenery. Four game modes are available: Arcade Story Mode Time Attack Versus Namco also bundles "Pac-Man Versus" inside the Gamecube version of Racing Evolution. A multi-player version of the classic dot-eating game, one player takes control of the yellow eater and up to three other players take control of ghosts in a concerted attempt to capture Pac-Man. Different mazes are available with names such as Haunted Hall, Manic Manor, Panic Pier and three others.
