«©NCSX» Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles are walking and tracking a signal when a few riders on boards burst out of the side of a building. Tails points and says the signal is coming from them and they have a Chaos Emerald. Sonic and Knuckles give chase and the red Echidna manages to knock one of the riders from its board and Sonic climbs aboard to chase a green bird. Sonic deftly maneuvers the board in front of the target and just when it looks like the pursuit is over, the bird sails over Sonic and dislodges him with a burst of air turbulence. Recovering from his tumble, Sonic is joined by his companions when Eggman appears on a big telescreen. Eggman announces the "EX World Grand Prix" to determine who's the best and fastest with Extreme gear and stipulates an entry fee of 1 Chaos Emerald. The winner of the Grand Prix takes it all...

Unable to resist, Sonic and friends join in and race against other riders. Once a race starts, the competitors jet away in rapid fashion as the boards roar to life and speed away. Handle the left and right movement of the board to accommodate the tracks as they undulate, swerve, and careen to foil racers. A speed boost may be triggered but using it drops your board's supply of air fuel quickly. To refill, pit stops dotted on the track may be used to replenish your board's air supply but precious time is used up. Additional competitive elements in the races include bashing action to knock competitors from their trajectories and extreme stunts which require solid landings.

NCS Game Notes
* There's a countdown before each race and the competitors zoom away, grinding rails, riding the pavement, and twisting, turning, and spinning like extreme stunts. The animals may also get a running start and rush with boards in hand to the top of the line in order to bolt out even faster. If you attempt to bolt through the starting line before the timer counts down however, you'll be temporarily electrified and lose any head start that you were attempting to gain.

* Golden rings line the levels and they may be gathered up with the classic jingle sound effect from the original Sonic the Hedgehog game. The rings are used to purchase extreme gear.

* The game runs fast with some breathtaking vistas as one flies up into the air and grinds undulating rails along the way. Flips, spins, and combinations thereof may be performed as one speeds through the levels.

* Game modes:
Normal Race / Choose a track and race away
Story Mode / 1-player racing with storyline
Tag Mode / 1P-4P competition
Survival Mode / Race under competition rules
Shop / Use ring currency to buy gear
