New boot-disc only loader allows the viewing of all NTSC DVDs on a Japanese Playstation 2. This means USA DVDs and if you're wondering, ANY DVD INCLUDED WITH A JAPANESE OR ASIAN VIDEO GAME SUCH AS THE SAKURA TAISEN REMAKE DVD; NO European PAL DVDs will work however due to the incompatible video format.

The first batches of the DVD Region X included a dongle but the latest versions no longer require the dongle but a memory card must be inserted into the PS2 slot-1 in order to function. Other than that simple requirement, the DVD Region X is very much the plug 'n play boot disk which allows Japanese PS2 owners to view many USA DVDs such as Die Hard, The Mummy, Mulholland Drive and Dumb and Dumberer. Please note that some dual layers DVDs may not work with the DVD Region X.
