Description
Update: July 20, 2006
«©NCSX» Take a trip to Bomberman Island and step into the persona of a regulation issue Shiro Bom. Meet and interact with fellow bombers such as Kuro Bom, Ao Bom, Midori Bom, and the mighty Gold Bomber among others. The interaction and overall adventure serves to link together a variety of mini-games which require quick stylus swishing, tapping, and maneuvering. At the outset, players may choose to use the d-pad + buttons for the game or the stylus. It's either or. It is unclear why Hudson made this restrictive exclusivity condition. When the game opens up, an isometric view of a town is shown on the bottom NDS screen where Shiro Bom starts on a street lined with similar-looking houses and trees.

NCS Game Notes & Spoilers
» The top NDS screen shows a local area map along with an image of Shiro. Four boxes with questions marks also appear.

» To move around, tap on a target area on the lower NDS screen and Shiro moves towards the tapped area. The further away you tap, the faster he runs. To walk a step, tap just a centimeter in front of him and he'll creep over a bit. To talk to citizens, walk up to them and then tap on their figure to open a dialogue box.

» While walking around town, you'll encounter Kuro and then Gold Bomber walking with a two Bombers. There's also a shark in a funny hat with a bunch of balloons tethered to his right hand. Locked gates bar the way to different areas of town and require payment in the form of baubless to pass through. For example, one gate requires 3 blue spades before passage is granted.

» To access the first two mini-games, enter the houses and/or walk over mini-game indicators. The first two mini-games are as follows in the sequence that we played them in

1) A colored bomb with a number appears on the top NDS screen. A bunch of bombs with numbers appear on the bottom screen. Click on the bomb with the same color and number that was just shown on the top screen. This is tricky because the bombs vary in size and there are good amounts of them

2) Racing game where the stylus is scratched quickly left and right to mimic some sort of fast action. The faster you scratch forward and backwards against the touch screen, the faster your Bomber runs. The fastest completion time we got was 8.41 seconds. Shiro ran so fast, he became blue colored.

» Once the games inside the houses are conquered successfully, the map shows them with a colored circle over them to indicate that they've been completed.

» After paying a shilling to open the gate to board the ship, an onboard mini-game may be played where the stylus is used to hurl bombs at a sailor on the top NDS screen. Each side gets two bombs to start. To throw them, tap on the bomb with the stylus and then swish the stylus up in the direction that you're targeting. There's some English that can be spun on the bombs as well. Sort of like bomb bowling. When bombs hit each other in mid-air, they'll rebound like pool balls. The goal is to hit the pirate with the bombs to do damage and to avoid having bombs languish on your deck since they'll explode and you lose HP. A second pirate appears later to help his friend. After a while up to 6 bombs may be bouncing around the screen in a morass of timer activated destruction. When the bomb turns red, throw it off your deck quickly lest it explode and end the game. Damage the pirates on top 10 times and you win.

» After completing the pirate bombing game, walk further into the vessel and step on top of the mini-game trigger that's next to Pretty Bomber. A trampoline appears and Shiro Bom starts bouncing. Every time he lands on the trampoline, swish the stylus up to send him higher to hit bombs that are suspended in the air. Each bomb requires 3 hits and there are a total of 3 bombs to destroy.

» When faced with a rock that blocks a cave, a bomb icon will appear over the boulder. Tap on the bomb icon to drop a bomb which blows up the rock a few seconds later.

» There's a cave to be explored. Once you enter, its dark inside so put on your miner's hat to illuminate the local area of the cavern.

» After exiting the cave, the next area has a mini game where the player controls a little platform and bounces Shiro Bom up while hitting bombs. It's sort of like Bomberman Breakout. Keep the platform under Bomber and he'll eventually destroy four bombs by ricocheting with the ultimate goal of reaching the top of the spire and onto a platform.
