«©NCSX» Sometime in the future, tinkers of machinery have a new hobby in the field of customized robots made from parts. Against the craze, a lad enters the fray and battles opponents in bouts of fast-paced theatrics. Measuring a mere 30cm in height, a Custom Robo is a player-designed mech which is constructed from 180 possible parts. Every robot is made of four main customizable parts: arms, legs, helm, and body type. Once created, a robot is ready for the arena and literally launches into action against opponents in brisk battles. Gekitou! Custom Robo features a Wi-Fi versus mode for two players to bout it out and is compatible with the voice chat function supported by the NDS Earphone-Microphone.

NCS Game Notes
» The protagonist is a transfer student to Midheart High School in the town of Midheart. At the outset of the game, the player dreams of a battle between his Custom Robo and a powerful opponent. The d-pad doesn't work in the dream sequence but weapons may be activated by tapping the trigger buttons. When the protagonist wakes up, he descends the stairs to meet his family before heading off to school. There's a TV in the living room which may be toggled on and off by walking up to it and pressing the A button.

» Movement is performed by pushing the D-pad and menu options are roused by pressing the X-button. The action is shown on the upper NDS screen and the player's name, class, and money are shown on the touch screen next to an image of the player's Custom Robo which sports pink hair and blue/white armor.

» The bathroom in the school features three urinals, three stalls, and four sinks. There's a potted plant situated to the left of the entrance and a blonde-haired boy who blocks one of the urinals and seems to stand there forever. If you attempt to enter the girls' restroom, a girl will confront you right at the door and bar your progress.

» Upon exiting the school on the first day, player steps into an encounter in progress between two students. Protagonist joins the discussion and activates his mech which is shown in an animated sequence which requires 2 stylus movements to proceed - a swish to the right and then a tap on the back armor of the Robo.

» A challenge is issued between a blonde haired lad and the protagonist - a transparent table appears between the two and the battle begins. Rings of illumination encase both participants and a robot edit screen appears where weapons may be chosen and parts outfitted. To practice, select the first option.

» Once you've practiced enough, it's time to play the actual battle (third option) where the robots are literally launched into the battlefield from a positioning arm and are seen unwinding themselves from their compact cube forms and then assembling on the battlefield. Both robos start with 1000 HP and the first one that drops to 0 HP loses.

» Three weapons are available at the outset as follows:

Bomb
Press the R-trigger to activate the targeting cursor and move the D-pad to aim. Since there is a time lapse between aiming and bombing (by releasing the R-trigger), bombs aren't recommended against a fast moving opponent.

Missiles
To unleash slow moving missiles, press the L-trigger. The missiles move in straight directions and last for about 4 seconds before exploding. An effective way to use them is to amble close to the opponent and then fire away close-up to do some damage. The missiles are the versatile type and bounce off walls in a dash to reach their targets within their short life spans. Two missiles may be launched at the same time to do a double-team on an opponent.

Vulcan
A third weapon is a vulcan shot which may be fired in quick succession by pressing the B button. This attack is fast and has the best chance of making contact.

» The X-Button makes the mech perform a forward dash move which can be used as a battering ram move to damage the enemy. The A button is for jumping. In mid-jump, pressing A again will send the robot dashing forward in a swooping surge.

» Thanks to the versatile moves and abilities available to each mech, the strategic considerations in each battle is extensive. When moving, the robo also slides a little bit at the end of the move which is useful as a slow rolling attack sequence when gunning at a stationary enemy.

» Crates located in a level may be destroyed with a few concentrated attacks. Before destroying them however, they may be used as a barrier against enemy projectiles.

» After each battle, players are ranked for Time, HP, and Combo counts. Letter grades are handed out with A for superb and D for sub-par. The first four battles will allow a player's mech to level up. The fourth battle is against the school principal and beating him will level the player's robo to Level 4 and earn about 1400 credits.

» After the fourth battle, it's time to go home and sit down for a meal with the family before going to bed. The next morning, hero opens his closet and changes from pajamas to street clothes in a micro-second.

» You can spot in-game characters who are ready for battle by the tossing of the robo cube in their right hands. The robo cube is colored red, yellow, and green.
