Update: June 15, 2006 «©NCSX» Teleport to the Digital World once again with a new adventure which introduces the concept of a ranch where Digimon may reside and train. Played similarly to earlier Digimon role playing adventures, players start the game by selecting a male or female hero and eventually get to choose one Digimon from three possible choices. From there, the game takes the player from Digimon Central to the Digimon Ranch to the game over world where most of the exploration and battling takes place. Digimon Story features a simple battle system where up to five Digimon in your party attack enemies in sequence. The attack position of party members and enemies are shown on the upper screen and everyone takes a turn until one side loses.View the back cover and screenshots on the main NCSX website. NCS Game Notes & Spoilers » In the intro to the game, all manner of Digimon rise up in the air before the title screen appears with the same Digimon gathered together in a group shot on the lower NDS screen. Upon starting a game, players may select a male or female character and then name him/her. To give the protagonist an English name, tap on the "ABC" icon and enter "Timmy," "Tonya," or any other conventional English moniker. » The game starts inside a room which is filled with computer terminals. The protagonist walks over to one of the terminals, sits down, and goes online. The top NDS screen shows the terminal screen as it is shown and players may check out a calendar, a trash can on the lower right and some icons on the upper left. » Protagonist opens up a browser that looks a lot like IE and visits a search engine called "Digi Search." The search is initiated but before any relevant results pop up, the terminal is taken over by an image of three Digimon at a ranch. Expressing surprise at the terminal hijack, the protagonist taps away only to have the screen disappear as quickly as it arrived. Soon afterwards, an email appears and strange phenomena teleports the player to a new world. Blinking out of existence in the room and re-appearing in a grassy area near a body of water, the protagonist is soon directed to the ranch shown earlier on the terminal » Puzzled at the new state of affairs, protag moves to the right and watches a gang of Digimon speak to a feather-winged hero of sorts. After a while, all of the Digimon go into the hero who then moves to a spot and disappears into a greenish circle on the ground. Protagonist steps into the circle and is teleported again to an area with a waterfall fountain, potted plants, and a roving robot who walks to and fro. It's Digimon Central. A floppy-eared Digimon greets the protag and introduces the world of Digimon Story. After a short conversation, control is handed over to the player. The D-pad is used to move and the A-button initiates conversations with NPCs. To proceed further, run to the north and bump into a lad wearing a headband named Souka who gives some more information on Digimon. He steps aside to allow player passage into a laboratory where a wizened professor is waiting and takes protag to the winged hero from earlier. A yellow Digimon known as Agumon shows up and gives the player a chance to select one of three Digimon. We chose the pink one and named it Cally. » Once done talking to the NPCs, walk back to the green circle and teleport back to the starting area in the over world. Things soon get hairy when a pair of Digimon run to protag while being chased by a green ogre. » A battle starts where the Digimon party and enemies are shown on the upper screen and a front-view of the ogre is shown on the bottom screen. The camera pans left and right and attacks are selected from a Battle Menu on the right side of the screen. As each Digimon attacks, the blows are shown on the ogre. After two blows from Cally, the ogre poofs and is defeated. » In a battle, the top screen shows order of attack. If it's only your Digimon and an opponent, each Digimon will take turns attacking until one expires. The right side of the top screen keeps track of your Digimon's HP, MP, and battlefield layout. » Before each battle, a siren sounds twice before the screen shifts to battle mode. After each battle, bits are won which are the units of currency in Digimon World and the amount of EXP gained is shown. » When a Digimon levels up, the bottom NDS screen shows the old stats on the left side while the new stats are shown on the right side to give players an idea of how well their little beast is improving with each subsequent level gain. » Digimon Story is played on three main areas - the ranch, the game over world, and the Digimon central command area. All three areas may be visited by stepping into green or pink teleportation circles. Most of the action takes place in the over world where all the exploration, battling, and item collecting takes place. The ranch is where new Digimon are grown and raised while the Digimon Central command offers amenities, shops, and advice from fellow Tamers. » Only one game save can be stored at a time. Unfortunately, any old data will be overwritten every time you perform a save. To save a game, press START at any time and then highlight the DS screen icon on the lower-right. » The first serious opponent is a green ogre-like creature who carries a cudgel. As long as you have one level-5 Digimon and at least two Digimon with you, it can be defeated. Otherwise, it can crush a Digimon with one or two blows. Once defeated, it will give up 22 EXP points, 60 bits, and 15 kg. » Digimon Story features 200 Digimon including beasts from the latest television season. This document is ©NCSX 2006.
