Update: June 22, 2007 «©NCSX» Mash up the famous characters from Dragon Quest and Super Mario Bros in a Monopoly-like board game and you have the latest incarnation of Enix's Itadaki Street. The goal is the accumulation of property and capital while your protagonist roams around a board. At the outset of each game, four players stand on the starting point. The first player throws the dice and then moves the allotted spaces as dictated by the die. Some spaces on the board feature bonuses which yield gifts while other spaces serve as property that players can buy. Once you're a property owner, you can charge fees to anyone who lands on your space so it's sort of like collecting rent. The ultimate goal is to accumulate such a surfeit of property and capital that you overwhelm your competitors. Mr Toad is present in the first level along with a Blue Slime and a Platypii but more characters such as Mario, Luigi, Donkey Kong, Yangus, Bianca, Jessica, and many others appear in later levels to join in the board game action. NCS Game Notes » Upon starting the game, you're prompted to select a save slot from three that are available. Next, enter your name in hiragana, katakana, or English. We named our character Slim because there's only four letters allowed and we were hoping to input the proper name of "Slime" in honor of the blue slimes. Afterwards, select a male or female protagonist and customize the face, hairstyle, and clothing. Once finished, the boy character performs a backflip while the girl character does a twirling dance before the game begins.» You're initially greeted by Mr Toad who accompanies you into the game world. The first opponent is a blue slime but nine other question blocks await to reveal more opponents after the blue slime is defeated. The four players who start the first game are you, the blue slime, Mr Toad, and a white duck creature from the Dragon Quest NDS game. The position that the players take their turns is decided by a number randomizer. The highest numbers determine primacy. The first level looks like a squat version of the number 8. » The first board starts with trumpets blaring and a view of a pink and grey colored castle on the top screen. The touch screen shows the four participants and an overhead map of the play board. The various characters throw the dice and walk their alloted spaces on the playboard which are marked with numbers, bonus icons, and other symbols. Your job is to buy properties when you land on them and build a little empire while your competitors are all doing the same. Everyone starts with 1200 credits at the outset. If you land on a Question Mark, Diamond, Heart, Spade, or Club, you'll be able to choose a card out of a screen full of 8x8 them that give a special effect such as transporting all other characters onto the space. If you land on the Casino square, you can play a game of Pachislot or a card game. » Once you have property, anyone who lands on it is charged a duty for landing on your spot. It's not much at first but the property can developed so that hundreds of credits are exacted from anyone hapless to fall into your domain. » There's one level that takes place aboard a somber galleon and another that's at the Mario Stadium baseballdiamond. There's also a Mario Kart stage and a Super Mario Bros stage that's shaped like an "M" to play upon. A total of 14 stages are available to enjoy and conquer. » Multiple gamers may engage in 4-player board game challenges by way of the Nintendo DS Wi-Fi opposition mode where online connected players can get together. If you're local and want to play against someone nearby who also has the Itadaki Street DS game, you can connect wirelessly and play. Finally, if there are three players in the local vicinity who want to play, they can download code from your copy of the game and then play a 4-player match. » The characters featured in the game are as follows: Dragon Quest Alena Bianca Blue Slime Cristo Dragonlord Hassan Jessica Kukule Pudding Yangus Super Mario Bros Catherine Donkey Kong Kinopio Koopa aka Bowser Luigi Mario Princess Daisy Princess Peach Waluigi Wario Yoshi This document is ©NCSX 2007.
