Update: June 29, 2006 «©NCSX» The locals speak of a ghoul known as Hekiwaro who once haunted the village of Yoshino in Nara Prefecture. A long time ago, the earthly incarnation of the spirit was something of a party pooper who hated to see people having fun and mirth. Whenever a party was in full swing, old Hekiwaro would burst in on the scene and ruin everyone's good time. Eventually, the villagers tired of Hekiwaro and decided to beat him up and bury him under a massive boulder. Hekiwaro's bad temperament had become tiresome as well as bothersome. Out of sight and out of mind. Or so they thought... Fast forward a few centuries and the spirit of Hekiwaro has been released from his burial spot by two comics spitting lines and a bolt of lightning from above. With a claw from below lifting him out of his crypt, Hekiwaro with his protruding belly button haunts the Earth once again. Soon afterwards, the spiky-haired and very old looking God of Laughter emerges from his shrine and literally bumps heads with the two comics. A short tutorial commences where the techniques of virtual comics are shown and demonstrated. Once the tutoring is over, the God of Laughter deems the comics good enough for the mission at hand and charges them with sealing Hekiwaro's apparition underneath the boulder again by way of comical dialogue, colorful banter, and Three Stooges-like violence. Create a slap happy routine and step on a stage in front of an audience and ham it up to make the people laugh. If you succeed and entertain the rabble with proper comedic timing, spot-on dialogue, and perfectly executed slaps, you're one step closer to discovering the ways and means of burying Hekiwaro. Routines are executed by pressing three buttons (X, SQUARE, TRIANGLE) to trigger actions in your choreographed session. After conquering one crowd, it's off to the next venue on the map (well, they're actually shrines) to tickle the audience's fancies. If you flop and the crowd responds like the living dead, you and your partner might just end up under a boulder yourselves. A tutorial mode teaches gamers the routine of comedy. Invoke Benten, the goddess of entertainment and hope she smiles on your routine. JAN Code: 4939814200060 View the back cover and screenshots on the main NCSX website. NCS Game Notes » There's a good amount of speech in the game and the two comics intonate all of their stage dialogue in monotone sounding samples. The characters also grunt, groan, mutter, and say snippets such as "Moshi Moshi." There's even a little bit of English text in the game as well as Mandarin speech samples. » Megami no Etsubo is Japanese text intensive. As such, NCS does not recommend purchasing this game if your Japanese language skills are nonexistent. NCS Alternate Synopsis A ghoul named Hekiwaro has escaped from its sealed tomb and is raising a ruckus. To seal the ghoul back in its crypt, two hipper-than-thou hipsters named Ikki and Titose trade lines and insults to elicit laughter from a crowd. As an added impetus to do well, Ikki has been cursed with a pair of "drawn-on" glasses which plaster his face. Only by spitting funny lines will Hekiwaro be trapped once again and those ugly glasses removed. Perform the comedic routine by way of stylus tapping action that's choreographed prior to stepping on stage. Draw uproarious laughter and step one stone closer to stopping mischievous Hekiwaro. Fail famously and watch as old Hekiwaro runs roughshod over Benten shrines across Japan. Although the slapstick routines may be triggered by poking the stylus at the prompts on the screen, the Y, X, and B buttons may also be used. In addition to virtual comedy, a eight mini games may be enjoyed such as Japanese tile catching, catching Japanese text phrases with a disembodied palm, and avoiding spears while standing on a platform.
