Description
Update: May 24, 2007
«©NCSX» The Valaim Empire is on the warpath and their actions rouse resistance from two neighboring countries. The protagonist is a mercenary named Fazz who's services have been employed by the Nightweld Empire to guard the Tower of Wind from attack. From a simple assignment, Fazz eventually goes on mission to save the land of Mardias from utter cataclysm. Originally released on the Playstation in 2001 to mixed reviews, Hoshigami on the NDS is an overhaul of the original which makes for a more enjoyable gaming experience. The game features updated graphics, new missions, a new character named Kasha who looks like Fazz but with red eyes, three difficulty levels including an Easy Mode, multiple endings, more save spots, and complete stylus control if desired.

Bonus Giveaway for Preorders
All preorders for NDS Hoshigami will ship with a bonus 36-page booklet which contains information on the land of Mardias, the three powers that reside on the continent, profiles and artwork for the main characters, and a manga which chronicles a short episode in the lives of Fazz, Tinn, and friends. Snapshots of sample pages may be viewed below. While supplies last, we will include the bonus booklet with new orders. Update on May 24, 2007 at 2:48PM EST: All visual books have now been given away.

NCS Game Notes
» Upon starting the game, you're prompting to choose "Easy," "Normal," or "Hard" mode. We were wary of the "Hard" mode so we selected "Normal" to be on the safe side. Note that if you play the game in "Hard" mode, you'll face the high difficulty level found in the Playstation original.

» The hero's default name is Fazz but you can rename him to another moniker in Hiragana, Katakana, or in English.

» The game kicks off with Fazz and Leimrey standing on some steppes and having a conversation. To the left and right are average citizens who are milling about. To fast forward through the dialogue, tap on the "Skip" button located on the lower-left corner of the touch screen.

» The first mission pits your party against two groups of enemies on an isometric battlefield. Movement and attacks are selected from a menu bar which appears on the left side of the touch screen. The game is turn-based where every character is mobilized into battle. To move, tap on the first option on the menu bar and then select a target square from the flashing blue squares that appear. To attack, move next to an enemy and then select the second option on the menu bar. A gauge will immediately appear which moves from the right to left quickly. To enact a critical hit, wait until the bar on the gauge reach the area indicated on the right portion of the gauge.

» Hoshigami is an involved game. Each mission can take up to 30 minutes or more to complete due to the amount of individual moves and attacks that are controlled by the player. Once you're done moving your crew around, the enemy units take their turn and each and every fighter moves and attacks in painstaking fashion. To get through the first mission quickly, concentrate your attacks on the leader who swings a mace around. Once he's dead, the mission ends and the next one begins.

» There are redundant button presses required by the game engine after every move that you select. This slows down the pace of the action.
