Description
Update: November 22, 2006
«©NCSX» A diverse gathering of heroes from the Shonen Jump weekly magazine join together once again for a battle royale of epic proportions. Whereas the original Jump! Super Stars featured a total of 27 series, Ultimate Stars goes for the gold with a total of 41 series in attendance. Along with renowned properties such as Dragon Ball, Naruto, and One Piece which are popular around the world, there's lesser known franchises in the game as well. The action hews close to the style and convention of Jump! Super Stars where manga panels (Koma) on the touch screen are tapped to activate characters. The fighting action takes place on the top screen where fast-paced fisticuffs are in play.

NCS Game Notes
» Before the intro starts, the words "Super Stars turn into Ultimate Stars. These Stars are Unequalled in Power" appear followed by a lively intro where marquee heroes in the game appear in a thrilling animated sequence.

» The introductory story is told through black & white manga panels which set up the tale before the option selection screen appears. Battles are mission-based with each completed mission opening up new ones. An introductory exercise starts off which explains the game controls. Players may control Luffy or Naruto at the outset by tapping on their manga panels on the touch screen.

» Movement in the game is controlled through the D-pad. To proceed, destroy the target (box with a face) by using Luffy or Naruto's special attack. Special blows may be triggered by pushing the D-pad in a direction and then pressing either attack button (B or Y). To block an attack, push down on the D-pad

» Pressing the jump button in mid-jump will send the fighter jumping again for a double jump.

» To dash, double tap on the d-pad for a running start

» Similar to the first game, all of the action takes place on the upper screen while manga panels are shown on the touch screen. Tap on characters to activate them seamlessly and quickly.

» Your opponent in the first four tutorial/training missions is a square box with thick eyebrows, pursed lips, and a hard hitting left hook. If you can't read Japanese, just look for the button commands amidst the Japanese text which indicate the actions that must be performed to proceed. There's also times when you're prompted to tap the koma-screen to activate Naruto or Goku during the course of the training.

NCS Preorder Description
Akin to eggs and milk, games generally have short shelf lives. In NCS' experience, if a game doesn't sell well in the first 2 weeks of release, we can expect the inventory to sit in our warehouse for 5-6 years before the stock dwindles down to more manageable levels. Sadly, some games sit in warehousing for nearly 15 years without any signs of depletion.

The majority of new game releases don't sell well. There, we said it. In addition to our surfeit of old stock, we've seen associate warehouses brimming with old games that might go into a landfill in Alamogordo, New Mexico one of these days... Then there are the superstars. Games that sell well week after week, month after month... chugging along and defying all original sales projections. Jump Superstars is one of those games. Despite being over a year old, the game trounces all other NDS releases in terms of sales volume on a weekly basis.

With that out of the way, NCS opens up preorders for Jump! Ultimate Sars which is scheduled to arrive on or around November 21. New series' fighters join some of the old series' fighters and bout it out in a battle royale of stylus poking fever. Popular characters from Dragon Ball Z, Naruto, One Piece, and Bleach are joined by somewhat less familiar heroes from Rurouni Kenshin, Dr. Slump, Hunter X Hunter, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, and many more for a total of over 300 fighters in all. To add extra challenge to the fighting, developer Ganbarion includes Wi-Fi battle functionality to ensure that one is never in want of a competitor.

Distributors mention that Jump! Ultimate Stars will include a preorder bonus. Perhaps it's another booklet. Per our usual preorder allocations, NCS expects a ??? ratio of bonus to game for Ultimate Stars. As such, only early preorders will receive the bonus.

Please note that preorders for the Japanese DS import Jump Ultimate Superstars are expected to ship on or around November 22, 2006.

Bonus only for a small amount of orders
Early preorders will include a bonus Jump! Ultimate Stars postcard booklet that's similar to the bonus given away with the original Jump! Super Stars game. Each Shonen series featured in the game is given a thick postcard which stars off with one showing the gang from Eyeshield 21 followed by I's, Ichigo 100%, Katekyo Hitman REBORN!, Captain Tsubasa, Gintama, Kinnikuman, and more. The artwork is very good and the book will be a nice collectible to add to a Shonen Jump fan's archive.

Please note that NCS only received a 1:20 ratio of bonus to game. Unfortunately, we can only include the bonus with very early preorders.

Riokenn (2): Best DS game ever!
I have been playing this game for quite a while and its just amazing. The ability to play online makes going through story mode so worth it. This game isn't going die early. If you like Super Smash Brothers and like Online play, then defiantly pick this up.
