Description
Update: November 30, 2006
«©NCSX» Milestone, the publisher of Chaos Field and Rajirugi, tries their hand at a different kind of shooter. In Tank Beat, players take indirect control of a Panzer which rolls by obediently following stylus swishes on a map. The NDS touch screen shows an overhead view of the terrain and players may guide the tank to a destination by simply drawing a line from point A (the tank) to point B. While en route, enemies may be shot at by holding the L-trigger to go into attack mode and then tapping the targets on the map to fire destructive volleys. When the tank is mobile, it is depicted on the touch screen with a lighted arc in front of it which serves as a sweeping radar to detect enemy armor and targets in the local area. The game is mission based with stages featuring objectives that must be fulfilled before the player can proceed to the next stages.

NCS Game Notes
» Six cast members are featured in the game in addition to a number of tanks which differ in POWER, DEFENSE, SPEED, and RANGE. Please note that only the Curculi Tank is selectable in the first training mission where the player learns how to move the tank to a rendezvous and then shoots at three stationary targets on the opposite side of a river. After destroying the targets, roll to the southwest portion of the world map and face off against an enemy tank that fires back. By drawing an arc around the enemy and rolling in a circular area, you can run and gun at the tank without catching any return fire.

» The Curculi is strong in either power or defense but it is speedy and has great range.

» The second mission is an escort mission where the Curculi tank is used to protect a supply truck from about 5 enemy tanks in the area. The truck won't start rolling until about 2 minutes into the mission so before that, perform a sweep of the vicinity and destroy two tanks to the north and northeast portion of the screen. Once the truck (indicated by the yellow dot) moves, accompany it and destroy any tanks along its path.

» After completing a few missions, more usable tanks will begin opening up and the the four tanks available after a few successful missions are the Curculi with an HM. GUN and the Coccinell which is mounted with a CANNON1/M.GUN. Next up is the Batocera with a CANNON2/M.GUN and the Dorcus with a CANNON6/7.GUN.

» When a mission starts, the rattle and beat of a war song reverberates in the background as the tank rolls. The view on the top NDS screen takes in the action on the battlefield from a behind-the-tank 3D perspective as enemies approach in the distance and fire away. When rolling, the tank can run 'n gun while locked onto a target and perform reversals to retreat from an attacking enemy.

» After each mission, you are ranked and given a letter grade on your level of performance.

» Tank Beat features a total of 30 stages and 30 tanks in the game. Players may enjoy the Story Mode where players take control of a tank driver who interacts with five supporting cast members.
