Namco borrows a page from Super Monkey Ball and pits their golden dot-eater against not only the mischief of Golvis but the powers of momentum, friction, and wind shear. Pac 'n Roll follows the play mechanics of games such as Marble Madness and Monkey Ball where Pac-Man rotates and swerves on various levels to traverse obstacles and reach goals. Power-up chocolates may be gobbled up for additional abilities such as short range flight (green feather hat) or weight (armor) which grounds Pac-Man's stability in windy areas. The armor also enhances Pac's defense and destructive force when bounding onto obstacles.

The top NDS screen shows off the action while the bottom screen shows a large Pac-Man which rotates and serves as the palette upon which to swish the stylus fervently to move Pac-Man in all directions and accelerate by scribbling faster in the direction of motion. Winds in some levels increase the resistance and friction if Pac rolls in the opposing direction but will speed Pac up if he moves in the same direction of the wind.

Levels range from straightaway courses to floating islands to a board that is reminiscent of a pinball table. A total of 26 stages are included in the game with titles such as Castle Pac, Gyro-Jungle, Ghost Land and Flaming Fortress.

As an added bonus, the original Pac-Man game may be enjoyed once one tires of the Pac rolling action.
