NCS Product Synopsis
Update: July 5, 2006
«©NCSX» Capcom foregoes the use of Zero and goes with two new heroes named Van and Eru in the latest Rockman game. Set in the same universe as previous Rockman games, Van and Eru work as couriers for Girouette Express, a package delivery service.

One day, Van or Eru (selectable at the outset of gaming) and Girouette are transporting a shipment of Live Metals for Pureri aka Prairie when a cadre of Irregulars attack them in a bid to abscond the valuable cargo. In the chaos and confusion, the cargo is loosed and Van absorbs the Model X Live Metal while boss man Girouette takes in the Model Z Live Metal. Empowered with new abilities, the two roust the Irregulars and set off on a mission of discovery...

NCS Game Notes
» The R.O.C.K. system refers to the "Rebirth of Crystallized Knowledge System"

» Press START and a character select screen pops up where players may choose to play as Van or Eru. The two will be known as Vent and Aile in the North American localization of the game.

» In the intro to the game, a camera pans down from the sky to a mountain road where Girouette stands with two motorbikes. He hails Van or Eru (depending on whom you selected) and the camera moves sideways as Girouette steps up to Van or Eru. The two check out a city from an overhang while their motorbikes are resting. While they enjoy a short conversation, they're fired upon by a group of Irregulars. As they duck for cover, the Mavericks continue their attack which makes Giro's bike start to smoke. A blast destroys Van's bike and sends him flying over the cliff and onto his back. He wakes up below and receives a communiqué from Girouette to recover the Model X Live Metal. Van spies it floating and pulsating in the distance. As he approaches it, a group of Irregulars approaches with a gal in a pink hat and uniform. A serpent-mecha approaches behind them and the Irregulars attack the creature. The snake retreats temporarily but returns with a vengeance by slashing its tail down on them that knocks the Irregulars to the ground. Van faces the serpent alone but the X-metal floats in front of him and binds itself to him - a cinema follows which shows the integration process as he is suited up with the X-Metal and fires a mighty blast that knocks the mech-serpent down. Panting from the harried action, Van holds a dialogue with the X-Metal which gives him some pointers on the R.O.C.K. system. With that, the serpent retreats and Van is left with the Irregular group but he soon chases after the retreating serpent.

» The dialogue in the intro to the game is voiced entirely by actors.

» The top NDS screen shows all of the action while the bottom screen shows a level map as a hero makes his/her way across. The map uses a grid to depict the stage .

CONTROLS
A or R-Trigger / Fire weapon, Hold down to fire double blaster
B / Jump
Y / Select X-Armor
L-Trigger / Dash move

» If Eru or Van jumps up with a B-button press, press the L-Trigger won't send them sailing across the screen. However, pressing the dash button and then jumping will make Van travel in a nice combination of jump and dash sailing as long as the d-pad is depressed in the direction of movement. There's also no double-jump or a bend down move to avoid oncoming fire. The jump does work to avoid oncoming fire but NCS enjoy evasive variety in our games.

» A devious new enemy in the game is a heli-bot with a rotor on top. If you destroy it, its rotor will drop to the ground, turn on its side, and dash towards you in an attempt to perform chopping duties. Shooting it once will destroy it. The first level boss is the mech-snake from the intro. It'll shoot out green spinning orbs and turn its backside on Van where it lashes its tail onto the ground and sends three boulders at his direction. The only time that its vulnerable is when it slithers towards Van head-first. Its body is well plated and deflects all blasts. When it lashes rocks at Van, its possible to destroy the rocks by shooting three blasts in sequence. The first battle is easy and once destroyed, mech-snake lets off a lot of steam from its head before it explodes...

» In Level A-2, immediately after exiting the cave, there's a regenerating giraffe on the left side of the screen. Destroy its head and it'll grow back a new one within seconds.
