Description
Update: March 9, 2006
«©NCSX» In 1992, Hudson thrilled RPG fans with the sequel to the original Tengai Makyo. The game shipped on a Super CD-Rom² for the PC-Engine and Hudson eventually sold over 2,000,000 copies to eager consumers. Tengai Makyo II was a hallmark achievement for its time and featured voice acting, nearly 3 hours of narrative, cinematic sequences, and a soundtrack composed by Joe Hisaishi and backed by a full orchestra. In the 14 years since its release, technology has progressed to the point where it's possible to squeeze Tengai Makyo II into a silicon wafer.

In terms of visuals, the original PC-Engine graphics are retained in the NDS game but the attack system has been modified to take advantage of the stylus. With a few strokes, different attacks are possible to overcome enemies.

Official Hudson Press Release
Legendary RPG to be given new life on the Nintendo DS

All-new battle and control system utilizes the stylus

Tengai Makyo II: Manji-Maru available for Nintendo DS on Thursday, March 9.

Hudson Soft Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director and President: Hidetoshi Endo) is pleased to announce that the Role-Playing Game (RPG), "Tengai Makyo II: Manji-Maru Far East of Eden debuted on the Nintendo DS in Japan on Thursday, March 9, 2006. The price will be 4,800 yen (5,040 yen including tax).

The Tengai Makyo series, known as Far East of Eden in English, is Hudson's largest RPG franchise, already boasting over two million units in sales. The original "Tengai Makyo II: Manji-Maru was previously released in 1992 for the TurboGrafx Super CDROM and has been hailed as the masterpiece of the series. The original version featured a magnificent story and unrivalled depth, elements which have been kept completely intact on the Nintendo DS (hereafter DS).

In addition to classic elements, the new DS version includes completely new features. The DS’s distinctive stylus can be used for simple controls, and an all-new battle system has been implemented. The addition of this unique functionality will make gameplay more enjoyable for new users, as well as those familiar with the original TurboGrafx Super CDROM version.

A true masterpiece revived for the latest handheld complete with voiceovers!
Tengai Makyo II: Manji-Maru is considered by many to have rewritten the book on RPGs when it originally launched almost 15 years ago. The new DS version contains all of the groundbreaking achievements of the original, including a vibrant world of more than three thousand characters, an all-star cast of 24 narrators including Kyoko Kishida - resulting in over three hours of narration, twenty thousand map screens, and a full orchestral soundtrack by Joe Hisaishi. You don't have to look hard to find the many impressive ways in which Tengai Makyo II redefined the RPG genre; each of these elements serves to develop and enhance the drama of the game's epic story.

All-new battle system allows players to alter attacks with the stylus!
The new DS version takes advantage of the handheld console’s unique touch screen functionality. Now field movement, conversations, battles, and all other actions can be easily managed with the stylus making this RPG simpler and more enjoyable for everyone.

The all-new battle system allows players to arrange their attacks by drawing various symbols on the Touch Screen. Drawing a diagonal or vertical line will trigger a weak attack, a V-shape initiates a medium attack, and drawing lines in a Z-type motion will unleash a strong attack. This intuitive, fresh approach gives players a taste of battle unattainable through traditional command input. Players can also opt to battle using the traditional and familiar control scheme of the joypad.

Compelling characters and an out-of-this-world storyline
The epic story of "Tengai Makyo II: Manji-Maru takes place a thousand years after King Yomi of the race of Earth, descended from the stalk of the giant Dark Orchid, and was finally defeated and banished deep underground by the Fire Clan and the seven sacred swords. A thousand years later, a Tycoon with plans to conquer Jipang unwittingly breaks the seal and releases Yomi and the Dark Orchid back into the world. It is up to the heroic young leader and a descendent of the Fire Clan, Sengoku Manji-Maru, to save the world. With the help of his friends - Jipang’s most flamboyant Casanova, Kabuki Danjuro, the unrivalled, ferociously powerful Gokuraku Taro, and the beautiful, mysterious, star-crossed Kinu - they stand up to the new evil threat of the race of Earth. Set in a fantasy world with distinctively Japanese influences, the game's sprawling, out-of-this-world adventures track the hero of the Fire Clan as he battles the great demon of the Earth.

About the Tengai Makyo Series

Designed and produced by Ouji Hiroi, the Tengai Makyo series was launched in 1989 with the release of Tengai Makyo Ziria for Turbo Grafx CDROM, the world’s first major RPG to appear on CD-ROM. At a time when most thought the CD-ROM was poorly suited for games, Tengai Makyo Ziria integrated features that couldn’t be put on other media, including sprawling maps, animation, real-voice narration, and CD-quality music. With a score from Ryuichi Sakamoto and an all-star cast of narrators, this epic title revolutionized the role-playing genre.

Set in the fictional Japanese world of Jipang, the game brought adventure, romance, comedy, and drama together in a single grand storyline. In addition to the main role-playing titles, the series came to include fighting games, featuring characters from the RPGs. The main RPG series was conceived in three parts.

The most recent addition to the series, Tengai Makyo III: Namida was released in April of 2005 for the PlayStation 2.
