«©NCSX» The whistle screeches and the low hum of the crowd sounds out as the challenge begins. Two warriors stand at the center of the battlefield and ownership of the ball is decided with foot action. Kick the orb to a comrade and dribble it like a pro as teammates motor to the goal. Once in position, strike like a man fevered with delirium and watch as the missile bounces off the outstretched arms of a defender. Wash. Rinse. Repeat. For 90 regulation minutes.

The Nintendo DS version of World Soccer Winning Eleven sacrifices graphical sheen for a fast moving game where the D-pad and face buttons controls all aspects of the on-field antics. The stylus would have probably been too inaccurate.

The alternative SKU # for this product is RY021-J1.

NCS Game Notes
» In one goal attempt, our game tester (hereby known as GT) dribbled the ball between two players by softly kicking the ball by tapping the B button and pointing the direction of the kick between the two players. As the opposing goalie responded to the interplay, GT shot the ball with a fearsome kick which swerved beyond the heroic leap of the goalie and swished into the net. The words, "Goal" glittered on screen as teammates partied on the field. GT had struck first blood.

» After a goal, a replay shows off the successful kick in slow motion. If you're vain enough to want to view it again, its possible to shift the view and play it back frame by frame with a slow motion replay video function and rotate the camera around the field of play.

» The action moves fluidly as soccer players motor down the field while a scanner on the bottom of the top NDS screen shows the whereabouts of every player on the field as they run and roam. The definition of the players isn't the greatest and they're actually fairly vague looking but they animate smoothly and we're guessing that was the sacrifice made for a speedy game.

» The control is good but not as snappy as we would have liked. For example, when running and being chased by a hound, we would have liked to be able to make a quick snap fake in one direction and then reverse in the other direction. This doesn't work too well but we're still experimenting.

» A new game mode is called "World Tour" where players create a custom-built soccer club and play games around the world. Player trading and acquisitions are possible to strengthen the team and make it into a world beater capable of tackling the best clubs.

» A Wifi function is available so players may play soccer against anyone connected online.

» While the game isn't as sharp looking or snappy as the PSP and PS2 versions, its still the best soccer simulation on the NDS thus far.
