Update: November 15, 2007 «©NCSX» Back in 1989, Hudson debuted the original Dungeon Explorer on the PC-Engine and gamers hungry for dank dungeon spelunking were sated. Nearly 20 years after the original game, Hudson releases an updated Nintendo DS version which features "Diablo" design sensibilities and simple exploration and hacking action. Character creation is straightforward with the option of sex, class, and race which affect the attributes that a hero starts off with. The control is handled through the stylus or the d-pad and the action takes place in a 3D environment. The single player mode lets a gamer explore and crawl by his lonesome but the wireless cooperative mode allows multiple players to team up to form a dungeon conquering gang. NCS Game Notes » The character selection process is not as elaborate as the PSP version of Dungeon Explorer and is much simplified. There are no customization options and you simply choose a character from 12 available choices. The attributes for each character are shown on a little window located on the lower-right corner of the touch screen. Upon selecting a character, you'll get to enter his name in Katakana, Hiragana, or English. We named our character "Joeste" because there wasn't enough space to fit "Joester." Five attribute points are available to parcel out as you see fit.» The game opens up inside a town. The d-pad is used to move the hero and there is no stylus control whatsoever. The action takes place on the touch screen while the top screen shows a local area map on the left and inventory on the right. There's about a dozen villagers and shopkeepers standing around who offer bits of information and/or wares when approached. This document is ©NCSX 2007. All rights reserved.
