Update: November 30, 2006 «©NCSX» Based on the Zoids Card Colosseum arcade game which was built on Taito Type X hardware, Zoids Battle Colosseum on the NDS attempts a faithful conversion and succeeds for the most part. Players take control of a blue-haired lad and a Zoids mecha which attacks by way of janken (rocks-scissors-paper) selections which are triggered by stylus taps. During a battle, players trade janken moves with an opponent - for example, if you tap on the rock icon and the opponent chooses scissors, your Zoids wins the match and is shown barreling into the enemy or firing a missile attack which damages the enemy. This goes on until one Zoids loses all of its HP. A supporting cast of characters add interactive foil to the adventure and the battles run hot and heavy after the first match. NCS Game Notes » Before each battle, players may select the positioning of the janken moves. The colors for each attack are (Blue: Scissors, Red: Rock, Yellow: Paper) which are arrayed on the NDS touch screen. To charge up an attack when given the chance, rotate the stylus in a circular motion on the red ball on the touch screen and watch the gauge fill up. There is another sequence where the top screen shows the enemy Zoids and the camera sways to and fro. To defend against its impending attack, tap on the lock point on the Zoids when the camera pans to it and you'll shield yourself from the oncoming blast.» Upon starting a game, the first battle takes less than a minute to get into gear. Your Zoids bounds into the battlefield, stops in its tracks, and rears its head to roar. The camera swivels to a view of the opposing Zoids leaping into action and stopping to bellow out a roar as well. The stats of each Zoids is also shown after their grand entrances. » The touch screen shows the janken moves and the player has 10 seconds to choose one. After selecting, the results of the match are shown immediately and you either win or lose based on the rules of janken. If its a draw, both Zoids are shown bounding at each other and clashing away without any damage. If you win, your battler will perform an attack which is shown on the top screen which is fairly exciting even after the 30th time. The battle continues for as long as a Zoids still has HP. » As mentioned earlier, there are two special moves/events during a match - if you attack, you can increase the power of the attack by drawing the stylus in a circular motion around a red dial to boost it up. If you're being attacked, there's a way to guard against it occasionally where the camera swivels on the opposing Zoids and the tap point must be hit timed perfectly to throw up a shield on your Zoids to deflect the attack entirely. » Zoids Battle Colosseum features over 60 Zoids to use, battle, and appreciate.
