Update: July 26, 2007 «©NCSX» On the Playstation 2 and in the arcades, rhythm gamers played Taiko no Tatsujin with a pair of drumsticks and a drum. Since the NDS can't support such a control scheme or contrivance, Namco does the next best thing for the touch-sensitive NDS - virtual taiko. The touch screen features a familiar looking drum which may be tapped upon with your greasy, buttered fingers but Namco has a better way. Two stylus drumsticks are included with every copy of the game which are used to tap on the touch screen and beat your way to success. One pen is colored blue for the blue drum cues and the other is colored red for the red drum cues. The play mechanics are the same as the big Taiko games and a familiar cast of characters return such as Unagi, Ika, Toramai, Meka Don, and Wadatetuo.Jan Code: 4582224496600 View the back cover and screenshots on the main NCSX website.
NCS Game Notes » It's okay to use the two bonus touch pens to play the game but we found that grabbing the NDS and tapping with both thumbs was somewhat easier to handle. If you lay the NDS flat on a table, then the use of the two touch pens is perfect. If you have to hold the NDS at the same time as the pens, then the gaming session gets unwieldy. » The colors of the Taiko protagonist's face, barrel body, and trim color can be changed and adorned with accessories. The only accessory available at the outset is a headband/bandana which goes on top of Taiko's head. A total of 34 other on-head accessories may be unlocked along with 35 on-the-barrel accessories including a fish-body costume, a dog-body costume, an inner tube, and one where a baby Taiko stands on top of Don's body. » The default NDS cues and button controls are as follows: Red Face Cue / Hit the d-pad or any of the face buttons Blue Face Cue / Hit the L or R trigger Two additional control settings may be selected which disables the triggers but uses a combination of the d-pad and face buttons to trigger the red and blue cues. When a Taiko with a balloon attached appears, hit the A button as quickly as possible to blow it up. » The game starts tracking your consecutive hits after 10 of them are strung together. Short songs contain 52 cues while long ones can have 119 and over. » If playing the game with the touch pens, the blue cue can be satisfied by hitting anywhere on the screen outside of the drum. A big red Taiko cue requires that you hit the enter of the drum.
