Update: December 10, 2007 «©NCSX» Doraemon and friends find themselves in a board game which features 100 mini-games and robotic feline shenanigans. Four human or computer controlled players participate in each game where a throw of the dice determines the range of movement for every turn. As the characters race around the screen, various gadgets totaling 100 different types may be obtained which affect the conditions of play. For example, one power-up changes the dice for all of your competitors so that it sports a "1" on all six of its faces to limit their mobility. The mini-games in Doraemon Wii range the spectrum of video interaction and include a wooden cart racing game, fishing inside someone's living room, cowboy quick draw, and one where all four players scrabble around a baseball diamond collecting coins while a robot shoots out electrical discharges. The board game is the main mode but a selection on the menu screen allows players to check out four mini-games but the remaining 96 have to be unlocked before they're selectable. Some early preorders will ship with a set of Doraemon character bands that's meant to be worn around player's wrists when playing. NCS Game Notes » The intro to the game shows the cast of characters in everyday activities while Doraemon-ish music plays in the background. » In the mode selection screen, there's a big Doraemon face in the center and its eyes will follow the movement of the cursor. If you point the cursor right between its eyes, Doraemon will look cross-eyed. » Doraemon Wii features a total of 100 mini-games. There's a Mini-Game option on the main menu which allows players to check out the mini-games without having to engage in any board game action. The four available mini-games at the outset are: 1) Fishing - Four characters fish right in the middle of a living room. The pool in the center of the room contains fish that may be caught by hurling the Wii Remote downwards. When a fish bites, there'll be a slight rattling sound from the Wii Remote's speaker which is your cue to whip the Wii Remote upwards to snag it. In addition to small fish, there's also a shark in there which will make whomever catches it lose 1000 points. 2) Target Practice - Point scores which are attached to fish and other things fly across the screen and all four players have pistols and onscreen targeting sights which they use to aim and shoot at the points. A black UFO wafts through the air from time to time but you'll want to avoid shooting it since it'll take away 50 points. 3) 500M Race - The screen splits into four windows where each racer hurtles towards the finish line which is indicated by a square hole in the ground. The objective is to get as close to the hole as possible without falling into it. To accelerate, press the A button but braking is done by swishing the Wii Remote up and down so that the wooden cart stutters to a stop. In addition to the 500M race, there's also a 300M and 100M variant. 4) Freeze Frame - The four characters are standing in a playground. Wait for the cue to appear and the first one to press the "A" button wins. Each round eliminates the slowest person until the last man standing wins the whole shebang. » The board game is played on a representation of Nobita's town and each block has a function attached to it such as +1 points or -2 points. Every player takes a turn and throws the dice to determine range of movement on the play board. Some spots will trigger mini-games where everyone participates in a challenge. Items may be picked up during the course of play which are used against your competitors to harm them in some way or sidetrack them. » The first mini-game we unlocked this morning was one where every character is holding an angel puppet in their right hands. You're supposed to run around the block but if you choose the wrong direction, the angel will beat your face with its fists. » Second mini-game unlocked - All four characters are running inside a dungeon and have to thrust the Wii Remote back and forward to run and shoot rings of laser power at the walls in front of them to create portal to jump through. All this while being chased by a menacing robot. » Third mini-game - Quick draw where the characters are dressed in Western clothes and wait for the countdown. When it reaches zero, press the trigger to shoot your raygun first. There's two heats and then the winners of those face each other. » Fourth mini-game - Run around a portion of a baseball diamond collecting coins and dosh while a mechanical bird flies overhead and freezes competitors with a laser beam. » Fifth mini-game - Posing game on a playground where you move the Wii Remote so that the character poses in a certain way and sequence.
