Update: April 23, 2009
«©NCSX» Originally released for the Playstation 2 in 2005, Capcom ports Monster Hunter G to the Nintendo Wii this week. Players take on the role of an adventurer who ventures into the wilderness to butcher dinosaurs, monsters, and other creatures. The Wii conversion of the game features new monsters and monster variants, a new quest mode, and four player cooperative online play.

Upon starting the game, players choose from a male or female character and outfit the new champion in various types of armor, helmets, manacles and other accoutrements to individualize every hero. The weapons are outlandishly big and an assortment of spears and swords may be hefted for killing forays. The option to carry a weapon in each hand is also possible for double slashing action. When attacking jumpy and excitable beasts, a player may be overcome if the monsters decide to attack en masse but sweeping berserker attacks may be pulled off to fend them off. Larger monsters tend to move slowly and provide a massive and stationary meat target for the most part. Then there are the winged wyverns which swoop in for the kill with an aerial dive. Four players can link up online for cooperative play.

Bonus Schwag
The first printing of the game includes a playable preview of Monster Hunter 3-tri which is mastered on a separate DVD and a bonus Monster Hunter Hunting Promo Card. The MH3-tri demo features two full quests that may be enjoyed where you choose a character and then go on an exploration/hunting foray.

Kane82 (1): Remake of a classic
While some might see the release of Monster Hunter G for Wii as nothing more than a scam to milk more money from the franchise, for fans of the series this is a great addition to the Wii. Monster Hunter G takes the original Monster Hunter, but adds new content such as your pet pig, who can be sent out into the field to collect items for you while you're away on your own missions, and of course, as the cover suggest, mightier, differntly colored variations of the Wyverns found in the original game. For those who have played the PSP iterations of Monster Hunter, you'll find G to be more of a challange both offline and on. Items are far tougher to come by than in the PSP versions, which creates a more challanging approach to crafting your coveted armor sets. Included with MHG is a Demo for Monster Hunter Tri~ , the first actual sequal to Monster Hunter Dos (instead of being just an add-on or expansion as in the PSP games). Tri~ has the makings of being one of the best games for Wii made. There are two missions to chose from, Dos Jagai, a raptor like opponent, and Kurubekku a bird-like wyver who has the ability to call other creatures to its aid. The demo is a great first taste of what Tri will have to offer!
