600 years after the destruction of a massive off-world ship, the story of Kaena begins.

Kaena was originally released as an animated movie in France (2001) under the name of Gaïna. It'll debut in the USA this summer with vocal talent from Kirsten Dunst, Angelica Huston, and Richard Harris. Namco took the license and crafted an action-adventure game around the main character Kaena and the world of Axis. A mighty tree hosts a human village where ~200 laborers tap the sap of the tree for their sustenance and for offerings to their gods. For many years, Kaena's people have worked the sap of the tree but the spigots are beginning to run dry. When puncturing the thin amber-colored vesicles that hold the sap, there's more misses than hits...

Kaena receives visions that she feels are coming from Axis as a call for help. Kaena defies the tradition of her people and ventures downwards to Axis' root system to address the problem and perhaps save her world. Along her travels, Kaena encounters a race called the Selenites that is also trying to save the tree from dying...

The Kaena game is an exploration based adventure where players take control of Kaena and travel through the world of Axis in a bid to save the tree of life. A cast of interesting characters include intelligent worms, entities made of energy (Selenites) and many others. A variety of weapons are available such as the Vecarian Knife, a Vecarian Saber which offers more reach and an Axe of the Shaman which adds a bit more heft to her close-range attacks. Projectile attacks may be launched with the Crossbow of Steel or the Blaster. Monsters in the game include Sharken, Marauders and Gordaks which attack from the air and from ground level.

Asian version vs Japan version
The only difference between the Asian and Japanese version of a PS2 game is the distribution mark on the back of the DVD insert. The Asian version includes a Japanese game DVD and a Japanese instruction manual. As an added bonus, the Asian version includes an English quick-start guide which reveals the controls in the game.
