Serf lives in The Junkyard as a member of the Embryon tribe. Around him, rival tribes compete against each other for turf and rank. Desiring to escape the dismal existence in The Junkyard, Serf gathers together a team of like-minded members and heads for a literal Nirvana. On the way to salvation, a mysterious green object called a POD hits everyone with streaming ribbons of light which penetrate their bodies. The effects of the light are unclear at first but they're soon found to be monstrous. Demonic powers have been granted to each infected carrier and a young girl named Sera joins the party and teaches the Embryons on how to rein in and control their new inner demons. Building upon the excellence of the SMT3 Nocturne adventure, Avatar Tuner offers more of the same with an updated battle system that rewards those who tailor their attacks depending on the enemy. Critical blows grant an additional turn to the attacker and certain magical attacks affect classes of demons differently from others. The battle system also hands out demerits when a hit misses entirely, causing the attacker to lose the next round of action. Enemies may also use Break techniques to block attacks and glance them away. Serf and friends are able to morph into demons amidst glittering light shows and consume enemies. The consumption of foes imparts their powers to the eater which may be mixed and matched with inherent skills and powers already available to the character. It's all very interesting and dynamic and should help to addict jaded players to the adventure. View the back cover and screenshots.
