Description
When the king is assassinated, the conspirators frame the princess Alicia for his murder. Sensing imminent imprisonment, Alicia banishes herself from the kingdom and is on the lam. Fate steps in however and she encounters the Devil during a trek through the Black Forest. Alicia makes a pact with evil incarnate where she procures the tools for revenge in exchange for the souls of the enemies she kills.

Although Alicia possesses no killing skills of her own, she is armed with traps which she sets and then lures unsuspecting enemies into. The ceiling, the floor, and the walls are all available for setting traps which may be triggered by wayward victims. Solo traps send pursuers to their deaths by sudden immolation, impalement, crushing force, or smashing trajectory. Death and damage incidents are captured by a versatile camera which zooms in from different directions to give bloodthirsty gamers a close view of the carnage.

Although single traps do the job, combo traps or dark illusions are the draw in Kagero 2. For example, one combo trap consists of knocking a victim into a cannon which then shoots... and splatters him against the ceiling. He then falls to the ground, quite dead. There's one particularly wicked trap where an unsuspecting enemy is bounced onto a massive wall clock and impaled. While still alive and stirring, the hands of the timepiece then come together to snip apart the hapless foe. There's another trap which involves chains that would make Pinhead of Hellraiser fame proud. Many of the combo traps are elaborate affairs and run their course for 5-10 seconds.

NCS Game Notes
* Upon starting the game, the Modes available are: Story Mode / Survival Mode / Load+Save / Options / Museum. Under options, the button configuration, sound mode, vibration, and Trap Hit Camera may be toggled.

* In Story Mode, the game starts off with an intro where four characters stand in front of a stone bust. Allura prays to her mother while King Olaf is called by a knight named Graines to return to the caretaking of the state before it is too late. Graines warns the king that he has been neglectful of his duties and he has changed ever since he married a new woman. Queen Catalina soon enters. While scolding Allura, a knife flies into the kings's back and he croaks to death. Catalina pins the blame on Allura while a maiden named Rachel leads the princess out of the castle to see Graines and another knight named Jais. The two knights vow to help Allura and they'll handle things on the homefront. They also charge Rachel with helping Allura escape.

* In the Japanese version of the game, Allura is named Alicia. The voice acting from the Japanese original is kept but English subtitles relay the tale to USA gamers. Rachel is named Rachel in the Japanese version.

* The first chapter is named "Unraveled" and Allura is on her own as she enters an abandoned royal castle. With pursuers behind her, Allura's only option is to lay traps to halt the knights. Once inside the castle, the Fiend speaks to Allura and tells her that his mark is on her body which makes her his servant. He commands Allura to kill a knight named Alan who has followed her into the castle. Another knight named Ralph vows to avenge Alan but Allura's traps are more than enough to kill him as well.

* After each level, death notes are available which show how each victim was killed. For our first level, Alan has his head removed by a pendulum while Ralph was shot through with an arrow.
