December 14, 2005 «©NCSX» Lead heroes Luke fone Fabre and Tear Grants are joined by a supporting cast in a story which ties together ancient prophecies, factions, and the possible re-release of a wafting terror. The battle system is dubbed the Flexible-Range Linear Motion Battle System where the fighters are able to wander the battlefield after blows and magic attacks. The environments in Abyss are interactive - trees may be felled to create bridges to cross bodies of water and rocks may be destroyed to gain passage to other parts of the game world. Mini games in Abyss include kitchen detail where dishes ordered by customers are shuffled out by pressing the proper buttons, a card game, and other games of chance held inside a casino. * Please note that only the Asian version of Tales of the Abyss arrived today. The Japanese version will be shipped tonight and is scheduled to arrive on Friday. View the back cover and screenshots on the main NCSX website. NCS Game Notes * The intro to the game shows a craft flying through the air with Luke fone Fabre on top. He leaps downwards and slashes at beasts and the cinema cuts to scenes of the other characters in action poses. One supporting hero splits a rock creature by jabbing it though its forehead. Production I.G. produced the animated introduction for the game. * The name of Luke's kingdom is Bachicul KimLasca. The etymology of the words are unknown. * The game starts in Luke's bedroom where he's gazing out a window towards rocks that are suspended in the sky. Instead of an overly lengthy introductory sequence, control is handed over to the player soon afterwards and Luke may explore his room before rushing out the door. The L-analog moves Luke but the R-analog doesn't shift the camera - it's in a fixed position that's 3/4 overhead the action. * After stepping out, Luke may speak to a gardener to his immediate right or approach a maiden across the circular shaped courtyard. There's a guard stationed at one of the doors who won't allow passage so head on over to the opposite side of the yard and enter the door for more exploration and conversation. When Luke travels the world, his clothing drifts and lifts behind him. His running animation is also well done with both arms pumping as his legs chug up and down like a locomotive. * Every door and cupboard in the game squeaks. Oil is needed. * For retro gamers who still occasionally boot up Namco Museum Vol. 5 for some Dragon Buster love, there's a remake of the game in Tales of the Abyss with updated graphics and Luke as the wandering platform action hero.
