In the present day, the Silpheed name probably holds little more than fleeting memories in the minds of the schmup collective. The new Silpheed's first impressions on the PS2 are lush visuals and stunning special effects. The in-game looks as good as the box cover art, if not better. Silpheed borrows the shield system and weapon selection from the original and plays well enough to garner respectable rankings from diehard shooter fans as well as the gaming press. Otherwise, this is pretty standard fare.
