After winning kudos for their line of rescue helicopter sims, Ask Kodansha adapts their versatile copter game engine for the purpose of war. Terrorist groups are staging attacks and other acts of sabotage across the world in separate theaters of conflict. One faction has created a blockade in an important shipping channel in order to disrupt trade while another hopes to topple the government of an already shaky principality. To combat the threat, mighty helicopters are summoned to go on lightning strike missions where players control an AH-64D Apache Long Bow (the latest gear), a KA-52 Alligator (Russian-made, high mobility and all-weather), or an AH-1W Super Cobra. A total of five copters are selectable at the outset of the game but two additional war machines may be unlocked. Each copter has strengths and weaknesses in terms of mobility, operating conditions, and weaponry. For example, the KA-52 Alligator may be used in stealth missions while the AH-64D Apache may be used to devastate enemy tanks and aircraft with its armor piercing missiles. The controls are intuitive and players man the copter through the Dual Shock 2 thumbsticks while the buttons are used for weapon fire, locking-on, and perspective change. The game may be viewed from the cockpit of a helicopter, from a camera outside, or from the vantage point of your target. As an added bonus for copter fans wary of import software and the Japanese therein, the game is entirely in English. A 1/144 scale AH-64D Apache Longbow toy is included with every order.
