«©NCSX» Master Takahashi (Master Higgins in America), the cherubic adventurer of vintage video gaming fame returns to the fold once again with a side scrolling platform remake. Jump, skate and throw objects such as spears and boomerangs at oncoming foes to derail their deadly intentions. Guide the Master through 29 levels and battle end-level bosses in order to save gal pal Tina from a wizened witch doctor. Beautifully rendered graphics, detailed creatures, and vibrant new music add a lot of shine to an ancient classic. New features in the PS2 upgrade of Adventure Island include a welcome save feature where one may start the game at any level that has already been completed. A challenge mode also tests the mettle of gamers by giving only one life and metering one's progress and time through the levels. A Marathon Mode is also available where one attempts to finish the entire game with a single life. Only true masters need apply for that one... Similar to the bonus section in PC Genjin, adept players can unlock special features in the game such as old commercials from Japan and the USA, the original music from the Famicom version of Adventure Island, and other bonuses. While keeping the simple controls and action-oriented gameplay intact, this classic action platformer featuring the young game fan's hero of yore—Master Gamer Takahashi—has now been upgraded with 3D graphics. Higgins must wield a variety of weapons, master skateboarding skills, and fight his way through an action-packed island full of monsters and traps in order to save his girlfriend, Tina, who has been kidnapped by King Kiura.This revamped version also includes new features such as a "Harvesting Percentage" which calculates how much fruit the player was able to gather, and the "Challenge mode" where the goal is to get as far as possible in the game using only one life. Additionally, a Harvesting Percentage of 90% or more will net the player a "Hachi-suke"— Hudson's honey bee mascot— which will reap "Presents" such as vintage "Adventure Island" commercials, the button-mashing "Shooting Watch" game, and other extras.
