Update: October 26, 2005 «©NCSX» Two decades ago, Space Harrier enthralled audiences with its pseudo 3D action where a Harrier ran into the screen while exotic enemies whirled, spun, and rallied against him. Stone faces, rampaging dragons, and silvery robots made up only a small portion of the dazzling sights to be seen as the Harrier shot them down from the sky or exploded them on the ground. To commemorate the 20th Anniversary of Space Harrier, Sega releases a compilation which gathers together the following classics:1) The original Space Harrier arcade game 2) Space Harrier - Mark III/Sega Master System version 3) Space Harrier 3D - Mark III/Sega Master System 4) Space Harrier 2 - Mega Drive version In the first level of the original Space Harrier, the Harrier flies into a planet named "Moot" which is populated with trees, floating rocks, and strange black globes which open up to release laser fire. Blast them all away to meet a green dragon which undulates as it flies and spits fire. Take too long to kill it and its rate of fire will increase to a rapid staccato. Run into a tree or a laser shot and Harrier bellows out a death cry. Hit a bush and Harrier stumbles before regaining his galloping gait. In addition to all the Space Harrier gaming, Sega includes a Gallery Mode which captures various promotional material from back in the day such as coin-op advertisements, shop leaflets, and interesting printed material from the mid 80s with attendant design sensibilities and artwork.
