Description
Update: February 23, 2006
«©NCSX» The 22nd volume of Sega Ages is subtitled "Advanced Daisenryaku: Deutch Dengeki Sakusen." Deutch is a proper word. An alternate word would be "Deutsch" which means German. It is not Dutch... In any case, the game is a remake of an old MegaDrive World War II strategy simulation where players take the side of the Nazi forces and battle the Allies for control of the European continent. Marshal tanks, planes, and infantry against opposing units in turn-based strategic skirmishes and all-out encounters.

The Nazi Party sought to entwine traditional Germany with their rule by temporarily using the term "Tausendjähriges Reich" or the "Thousand-Year Reich" to honor the past of Germany and the bright future that they foresaw. The game seeks to recreate the early part of WWII and goes through the duration of the war as conflicts rage across Europe from Poland to France to England and concluding within Germany. Successful campaigns against the Allies will lead to history altering outcomes as the Nazi machine motors on or crumbles to a halt. The game features over 500 different weapons that may be used in the game from panzers, artillery, planes, ships, and other instruments of war. A large amount of battlefield types also serve as backdrops of theaters which provide different terrain and conditions to battle across.

NCS Game Notes
* The full title translation approximates to: Advanced World War: German Lightning Strike Tactics.

* After enduring the countdown to saving a file to memory car (the timer ticks down from left to right...), the big blue Sega logo appears followed by SystemSoft and ChickenHead logo screens. After that, the original Sega MegaDrive title screen and a splotchy image of Hitler appears along with equally grainy audio of Sieg Heil!

* After pressing START, the following options appear:

CONTINUE / Resume a campaign already in progress
CAMPAIGN / Begin a new campaign
STANDARD / Play any one of 44 scenarios that take place in WWII
SOUND TEST / Listen to eight BGM and 92 sound effects

* Upon starting a new CAMPAIGN, the date is September 1, 1939 and the war is in progress. A screen of Nazi officers appears along with the words, "Achtung!" A grid-based map appears where a panzer convoy marked blue is located on the left potion of the screen. To move them, highlight the cursor on a unit and press the "O" button. A menu appears on the left side of the screen. Available options are backgrounded in black. The first option is MOVE and upon selecting it, the grids light up with the range of movement that your panzer may travel to. If you move to a position that is adjacent to a fortified Allied encampment, they'll get to attack first. In our case, we encountered mounted cavalry but their weapons did not harm to our tanks. The screen changes to a close-up view of each grid and each side attacks with the attacker taking precedence. For example, if you sidle up next to a cavalry group, your panzers will attack and you'll get to watch horses fall dead as your shells rip through the enemy forces.

* If you move adjacent to an open view enemy that is not hidden, you'll get to attack first. If they are out in the open, you'll do a lot more damage than if they were fortified in a forest or in the mountains. In open space, you have a 50% kill ratio for the enemy cavalry

* To end your turn, press START and press the "O" button.

* The game is fairly easy to play even if you have no knowledge of Japanese. Much can be figured out by trial and error and the actual game play is straightforward as war sims go.

* The default music that plays during the battle is PAX GERMANIA but you may change the music by pressing the SQUARE button to access the user option menu. Other songs that may be played including HIGHLAND LADDIE, PAX RUSSIANA, US ARTILLERY MARCH, LA MARSEILLAISE, PAX ITALIANA, and GLORIOUS DAY. While PAX GERMANIA is triumphant music, the US ARTILLERY MARCH will get your fighting spirit up and galloping.. Unfortunately, there's no way to toggle it off outside of muting your television but you'll then miss out on the warfare sound effects.
