Update: April 25, 2006
«©NCSX» Exotic bioengineered creatures turn against their human masters and hunt them down with a vengeance. With a ravaged population that's dwindling by the day, a group of humans known as the Imperials locate a Tower. In that tower, they retrieve mighty weapons which are used to battle the monsters and hold them at bay. With newfound power, the Imperials subjugate neighboring lands and conflicts erupt between groups of humans as well as the monsters. The Empire must be stopped...

Leap atop a winged blue dragon and take to the skies in an on-rails shooter where enemies are locked-on and targeted for destruction with a versatile homing laser. As new challenges mount, players may use double-rolls to avoid attacks and quick reflexes to avoid incoming ordnance.

The PS2 version of Panzer Dragoon features a new Arrangement Mode which serves as the default game along with a Sega Saturn Mode which is the original release. A Pandora's Box options screens allows for difficulty setting, life stock, episode, instrument, illustrations, films, and specials.

NCS Game Notes
» In the introduction cinema, sand dunes and craggy surfaces appear as the camera focuses on three riders galloping on strange steeds. As they make their way across the canyon floor, an Imperial ship flies over them and casts a massive shadow as it slowly flies ahead. The ground ripples behind them and a sand creature bursts out of the ground and slithers ahead of the trio as the riders give chase.

Another creature leaps out of the subsurface but when it attempts to attack one of the riders, it is easily shot down. The riders continue to hunt when one of them (Kairu) happens upon a hole in the side of a hill. Walking in on his mounted steed, Kairu travels for a little distance while observing the markings on the walls. He eventually chances upon a number of vessels hanging from the cavern ceiling and a platform moves and lifts him up. There's a spell of laser fire from above as a massive clawed creature hops down and crushes Kairu's little beast. He runs and the claw creature gives chase. Backed up against a wall, he fires two arrows at the monster which bounce off its exoskeleton. Just when it looks like the Reaper has won, a rumble loosens a stone from above which crushes the claw-creature.

A blue dragon swoops into the cavern chased by another dragon. The immensity of it all causes Kairu to slump downwards to the floor. The first dragon rushes back from whence it came and escapes outside where Kairu witnesses a battle between the blue dragon and a black dragon who fires a laser shot that passes through the blue rider. Dying, he nudges the dragon downwards and performs a transfer with Kairu before slumping to the ground. DEAD. A warning echoes in Kairu's head, warning him to stop the black dragon from returning to the Tower. The blue dragon roars a high whine and the new rider takes to the air as both dragon and rider flap into the distance.

» The intro is of muddy and blurry quality; Sega made no attempt to crisp-up the look of the cinema.

» In the title screen, the following options appear after pressing START:

Arrange Mode
/ Game Start [Play a graphically cleaned-up and crisp looking version of Panzer Dragoon]
/ Pandora's Box [Episode, Level, Life, Instrument, Illustrations, Films, Special]
/ Options [Controller Settings, Sound Settings, Music Test]

Sega Saturn Mode

» The Illustrations in Pandora's Box contains 13 CG renders of dragon/rider and 24 sketches of the hero, locations in the game, creatures, ships and other preliminary artwork that the creators used to mock up the world.

» The Films section in Pandora's Box contains the introduction from the game and a demo. Three films are viewable: The Playstation version of the intro, the original Saturn version of the intro, and a Sega logo demo where a humanoid construct made of the letters S-E-G-A cavorts.

» There are two films in the the Special option in Pandora's Box. The first film contains the introductory cinema and actual gameplay for the entire game from start to finish. Yes, it's a perfect play through of the game where the master gamer scores 100% and destroys everything that needs to be destroyed. The second film is a creator and contributors credits section with artwork inspired by Panzer Dragoon. Even the sales people and software testers are thanked while orchestral music blares in the background.
