Update: February 12, 2007
«©NCSX» When an alien force conspires to take over the galaxy, it's up to the mighty Thunder Cross spacecraft to beat back the menace. Armed with only a single gun at the outset, assorted weaponry power-ups may be picked up to even the odds. In addition to the different types of guns, up to four weapon units may be aligned alongside the ship to fire off a barrage of buckshot that'll cover nearly 1/3 of the screen. Notable weapons include the napalm blast which isn't really true video napalm but is still effective and a boomerang shot that bounces about. The Oretachi Game Center version of Thunder Cross includes seven items:

01) Thunder Cross Game CD
02) Miniature CD which contains background music and sound effects
03) Miniature DVD which contains developer interview and master play
04) A placard which contains playing rules and holds both mini discs
05) Game trading card with cover artwork and original artwork
06) A thin and flimsy official guide book with game hints and tips
07) Booklet which contains PS2 game info and photos of the original JAMMA pc-board from way back in the day.

NCS Game Notes
» The Hamster Logo rocks in like a hurricane.

» Press select to insert a credit

» There's some challenging cross-fire in the midway of level 1 but the game is generally challenging due to the quality of the programming.

» Either D-pad or L-analog may be used for movement.

» Orange enemy waves leave behind canisters when the stream of six is destroyed. Pick up the canisters to boost speed, change weapon systems, and add side arms - up to four side arms are possible which fills up nearly 1/3 of the screen at all times for great coverage. The side arms may be brought in for a compact shot or spaced out to reach more real estate on the screen by pressing the "O" button.

» Weapons power-ups include flame throwers, missiles, lasers, and napalm which is an explosive charge that's intermittent but explodes across the entire right-portion of the screen. In our opinion, Thunder Cross doesn't do video napalm properly. Like the real substance, video napalm should launch and then explode upon impact. Once burning, it should continue to burn with intensity for at least 2 seconds. At least. As it is, the napalm in Thunder Cross is more of a concussion bomb than honest to goodness video napalm. At least they got the flame thrower right.

» To view a beautiful realization of video napalm, check out Viper Phase by Seibu Kaihatsu. There's some video napalm in Forgotten Worlds as well that hews close to the true nature of the substance.

» After each successful mission, the USS-4058 spacecraft carrier dutifully zooms up from behind and rendezvous with the ship before heading off to the next mission.
