Update: February 12, 2007 «©NCSX» According to Ainu lore, there was once an old and grizzled hermit who traveled between cave residences on the Chishima Islands. He never spoke but before he died, he imparted a single sentence to a washerwoman named Reiko. According to Reiko, the old hermit muttered with his dying breath, "To know Trio the Punch is to love Trio the Punch." With that, he shuffled off this mortal coil and Reiko was left with a puzzled look on her face and a distinct pang in her heart. To be continued. The Oretachi Game Center version of Trio the Punch includes seven items:01) Trio the Punch Game CD 02) Miniature CD which contains background music and sound effects 03) Miniature DVD which contains developer interview and master play 04) A placard which contains playing rules and holds both mini discs 05) Game trading card with cover artwork and original artwork 06) A thin and flimsy official guide book with game hints and tips 07) Booklet which contains PS2 game info and photos of the original JAMMA pc-board from way back in the day. NCS Game Notes » The Hamster Logo rocks in like a hurricane.» Press "Select" to insert a credit. » Either the D-pad or L-analog may be used for movement. » Select one of three bruisers and launch into a side scrolling beat 'em up that sports unconventional enemies. Think bald-headed thugs who slouch and stumble forward with zombie-like abandon. Some will bend over backwards and belch a stream of fire. Others just sort of stand there... perhaps due to lack of programming AI. After beating a few of them down, the first boss may be witnessed. It looks like a bigger version of the bald-headed minions except that it's apparently sculpted from stone and holds a fixed posture. The boss also shoots a burst of flame from it's lifted-up foot. To defeat him, wait until the flames from its foot pass overhead and then jump and punch him on the side. Attack, wait, attack, wait and it'll soon be defeated. The next enemy is a disembodied fist which pounds downwards. After each level, the player gets to spin a wheel of sorts and gain bonuses or demerits such as Life Up, Main Up, Down, and Sub Up. » The gameplay in Trio The Punch is entirely forgettable... and we're being kind here. However, there's a certain charm and spirit in the characters and the enemies. You'll have to check it out yourself to experience what words cannot describe. » The words "horrible" and "excreable" aren't justified when describing Trio the Punch as a whole. Sure, the gameplay is lacking but there's a certain bravado and daredevil-like recklessness that gave the programmers at Data East the cajones to submit the game to management for approval. The bravado and recklessness was doubled when management green-lighted the project and allowed it to be released to the public. Without the double-barreled conviction of Data East's creative team and suits, we would have never witnessed the power and majesty that is Trio the Punch. » The third selectable warrior in the "Character Select" screen holds his sword like Rastan and bulges with muscles. The second warrior looks like a street thug with a tanktop and a backwards baseball cap. True to his thug roots, he punches with his fists instead of using a weapon. When he kills the first boss, he poses like Hercules after winning the Olympics discus event. The first hero is a ninja of some sort but whenever he gets hit, he'll temporarily change into a log. The ninja throws stars and can easily destroy the first boss (stone-man-with-pointed-toe) with four consecutive star attacks. » We have every intention of continuing the fictional story that we penned under "NCS Game Synopsis" for this product. Look for the next chapter in about 10 years when Reiko goes on a mission of discovery. Jan Code: 4529651001489 This document is ©NCSX 2007. All rights reserved.
