«©NCSX» Return to the Algol Star System and revisit world spanning adventures with characters such as Alis, Lutz, Nei, Rolf, and others. It's been over two decades since Phantasy Star first appeared so join Sega in celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the Phantasy franchise. The game was originally released for the SG-1000 Mark III on December 20, 1987 and for the Sega Master System one year later. Phantasy Star Complete Collection includes the following games on a single Playstation 2 CD:

Phantasy Star I (Japanese and USA versions included)
Phantasy Star II (Japanese and USA versions included)
Phantasy Star III (Japanese and USA versions included)
Phantasy Star IV (Japanese and USA versions included)
Phantasy Star II Text Adventures (8 episodes)

Similar to other Sega Ages 2500 releases, a Gallery section on the CD includes scans of instruction manuals, artwork, and other presentations from the Phantasy Star historical record. A leaflet which contains Phantasy Star information is also be inserted inside every copy of the game.

Region Lock-out
Please note Japanese Playstation 2 games will not boot on USA or European PS2 consoles due to the inherent region-lockout on Playstation 2 game discs.

Game Notes
» The Phantasy Star titles featured in the Sega Ages Collection are the original games from the Sega MKIII and Mega Drive. No upgrades have been performed on the actual code so the intros, graphics, and music are the same as they were originally conceived by the developers.

» Press START on the title screen and you'll be able to scroll to any of the four PS games to view their title screens or to the PS II Text Adventure.

» The Phantasy Star games are enjoyable in their own right but Sega adds a number of bonuses for each game which NCS chronicles below:

Phantasy Star I
Press SELECT to access the special functions as follows:
Machine: Play the Sega MKIII or Sega Master System (in English) version of Phantasy Star
Options: Controller Config, Move Speed, Difficulty, Save Dialog, etc
Archives: Sound Test and Gallery which contains 58 illustrations, sketches, game covers, and manuals
Display Setting: Adjust screen on X and Y axis, adjust Texture Mapping, Deflicker, Intensity, and select Video Mode
System File: Load and Save System File from Memory Card
Credits: View the production staff (in English)
Reset: Perform a soft reset
Return to Title: Go back to the Phantasy Star Collection title screen

Phantasy Star II

Phantasy Star II Yushi's Adventure
A Japanese text-based adventure featuring a blue-haired lad named Yousis. The title screen spells his name Yushi but in the actual game, he's called Yousis.
Character: Play the game as Yushis or Nei
Options: Controller Config and Extended Options (Sprite Limit ON/OFF)
Archives: Sound Test and Gallery which contains 3 scans of the original game instruction pamphlet
Display Setting: Adjust screen on X and Y axis, adjust Texture Mapping, Deflicker, and Intensity
System File: Load and Save System File from Memory Card

Suspend and Return to Title: Exactly as it reads

» Although the North American versions of the four main Phantasy Star games are included on the disc, please note that the Gallery only contains scans of the Japanese game manual.

» No one at NCS has finished Phantasy Star IV but since we now have the game on the PS2, one of us is bound to complete it. The last time anyone here played the game was roughly 5 years ago on the Sega Nomad.
