Koei updates Shin Sangoku Musou 3 with an upgraded "Mushouden" version which adds a Retsuden Mode, a Shura Mode and a Rentou Mode. The former refers to a "Legends" story mode where the player picks a hero from 42 possible characters and runs through a tailored storyline with customized scenarios and outcomes. The Shura mode is essentially a survival challenge where the player chooses a warrior and fights for as long as possible against endless hordes of attackers. In Rentou mode, two fighters face off in a one-on-one duel. Gamers with data to transfer from Shin Sangoku Musou 3 will be able to move characters, items, stats and weaponry to the Mushouden version to continue where you left off. The difficulty of the game has been ramped up and enemy generals will actually present a challenge in Mushouden. Koei appears to have tweaked the AI based on suggestions from Japanese gamers and generals will perform guard breaks, jump attacks, pull off combos and dole out hit and run routines which can become rather... frustrating.
