Update: Oct 21, 2003 «©NCSX» Sega's AM2 tries their hand at developing a playable Macross game after a string of passable to mediocre releases from developers such as Big West, Shoeisha and Emotion. Players ride a Valkyrie into battle against the forces of the Zentraedi and transform from Gerwalk, Jetfighter to Battroid as the scenarios change. In previous Macross games, transformations were not integral to the gameplay but AM2 hopes to recapture the spirit of the series and tailor levels and scenarios so that transformations do make an impact on the shooter gameplay. NCS Game Notes * The intro to the game starts off with a Valkyrie flying over the SDF-1 which then leads to a number of quick shots of the SDF, Zentraedi, zooming missiles, and other fast-paced scenes. There's also a sequence of the SDF transforming into a mighty robot and executing a massive attack. * Upon starting the game, the modes are "Stories," "Tutorial," "Player Data," and "Options" * The Stories Mode is broken up into missions which start off with a "Global Report" which explains the background and objectives. In the first mission, players are introduced to the Macross storyline where the SDF-1 drops on Earth and the denizens of the city rebuild it and outfit it with a crew. Approaching enemy ships cause the SDF to send a battle group out to meet them. * The first mission pits a lone Valkyrie against a number of enemy ships. The Valkyrie can shift to Gerwalk or Battroid Mode on the fly by pressing either L2 or R2. Missiles are launched with the "O" button while the "SQUARE" button shoots off a spray of vulcan fire. * When missiles are fired, they'll stream into the distance with vapor trails and snake towards their targets with billowing streams of white behind them. When an enemy missile has locked onto your Valkyrie, a warning will appear with "Missile" text blaring on the screen. * After each successful misson, the game will list your clear time, number of enemies destroyed, and your hit rate percentage. The option to save your data will be offered after each missile to record your progress. This document is ©NCSX 2003. All rights reserved.
