Update: December 25, 2003 «©NCSX» Last year, Taito unveiled Battle Gear 3 at arcade centers across Japan, Asia and in scattered locations across Australia. Since then, modified arcade cabs have also made their way to North America - modified apparently to appeal to American tastes.Based on System 246 arcade hardware which is PS2 compatible, Battle Gear 3 makes a flawless transition from the coin-op arena to the home console market. Taito's arcade cabinets for BG3 all connect to the NESYS (Net Entry System) which gives players the ability to race against human competitors in different arcades around their respective countries or regions. Please note however that Taito decided to keep servers in different territories separate from those in other territories - i.e, Japanese players will only be linked to other Japanese players and Asian players in Hong Kong and surrounding territories will only compete against racers within Asia. PS2 Battle Gear 3 racers inside Japan are able to link up with NESYS and compete against arcade based players in fast and furious competitions. Experienced players tend to provide a higher level of challenge that AI-controlled vehicles. Control mechanics are very good with the ability to drift and slide with speedy vehicles as the road blows by a brisk pace. Tight curves may be conquered but like Battle Gear 2, the car experiences near immediate inertia when walls are careened into. That's unrealistic and the car should just sorta follow the flow of the wall with sparks blazing from the friction. In any case, BG3 is enjoyable and works well with PS2 driving wheels including the new GT Force Pro. Seven courses are available in Battle Gear 3 along with mirror courses of each one.
