«©NCSX» The Puyo-Hat wearer known as Amitie from the first Puyo² Fever is joined by Raffine and Sig in Sega's latest Puyo Puyo game which kicks the Fever Meter up another notch. Players take a trip to the village of Purinpu where they interact with denizens and engage in Puyo Puyo color matching action. The skeletal Oshareborns from the first Puyo Fever is now a shopkeep who runs the Osharena Omise which peddles up to 72 possible power-up items in exchange for points. The town of Purinpu houses 11 new characters along with 10 returnees for a total of 21 denizens to play Puyo Puyo Fever against. A Story Mode may be enjoyed as well as quick Puyo Puyo games which don't involve a trek into the town of Purinpu.

NCS Game Notes™
* The character Sig's name means Special Interest Group.

* The intro to the game shows off new characters such as Sig, Raffine and old ones like Amitie and the whole cast in a short intro.

* To play the Story Mode, select the Puyo Castle on the top of the screen. After starting the normal game, players are prompted to enter a name and save their profile to memory card. In the Story Mode, players may select Sig, Raffine, or Amitie as their character. We chose Sig and proceeded to play Puyo Puyo against a glasses-wearing lad with brown hair that was shaped like the letter M. It's possible to select a special item before playing the match if you have enough points to help your chances. To start playing Puyo Puyo, press "X" and the game starts. If you press START, you'll be prompted to save your progress and then be dumped back to the main title screen.

* The Shop directly below the Puyo Castle is called Osharena Omises where players may exchange points for various items and power-ups which a player may use to improve performance and enhance one's advantage in a match. The proprietor is a skeleton in a blue top hat named Oshareborns. Puyo Puyo Fever fans may remember him as an opponent. A limited number of items are available at the outset of the game but as certain conditions are fulfilled, more power-up items are made available for purchase.

* The building directly to the right of the Shop is a storage area for unlocked data and a library. There's also an image gallery, movie clips, music selections, and a Replay Game section.

* In the 2P Versus game, players may choose a character from 19 possible heroes. Its possible to edit the rules to one's liking as well. Select this mode by visiting the Puyo Puyo Playground which has a red Puyo tunnel and a swingset on the icon. In addition to 2P action, one player may also take on the COM in a Puyo Puyo Fever 2 versus match. As in the original, the Fever meter is located on the middle portion of the screen and one meter is skewed on the side of either player.

* The large Library building in the center of the screen with a red flag and a waving green Puyo post in front allows for game adjustment through an options menu. Players may toggle vibration mode, set the difficulty, adjust sound volume, set the demo and animations, or change the player name. Other options allow a player to read mail and play 10 unlockable mini-games.

* To play a quick game of Endless Fever, visit the far away tower on the right portion of the map. A big chicken will greet you. This mode is for 1P and you may select any one of 19 characters and proceed to creating color combination matches. A small amount of Puyos are already on the ground in each stage and one must arrange the first couplings of falling Puyos so that they clear the entire screen of Puyos in one shot. If you can't clear the screen in one shot, make sure to arrange chain combos so that the first color match you make will at least clear as many of the Puyos as possible. Miss and the stage ends and the next one begins. Keep on keeping on until the 1-minute timer runs out.

* The tower is a work in progress but you may help build it up be completing or accomplishing certain tasks and objectives in your Puyo Puyo playing while in the tower.

* Other modes in the tower include an Endless Task mode where one creates Puyo combinations as long as the timer lasts, Endless Chu Panic where one creates Puyo matches but also has to contend with little Chu pieces that fall in threes intermittently. The key to winning this game is to get rid of the Chus before they pile up and hamper your Puyo creation skills. To get rid of Chus, create a color match that is contiguous to the Chu. When the Chus fall, they'll make a soft sneezing sound... as in "ah chuu." Get it? There is no time limit to the game and players may play until they're overcome by an avalanche of Chu. The final game mode in the tower is Endless Original - classic Puyo Puyo fun.
