Update: August 23, 2006 «©NCSX» Originally released in 1992 for the Japanese PC-98, Success revives an old computer game series on the PS2. Players takes on the role of a troupe manager and coach who represents wrestlers. Not just any gang of wrestlers but brawlers of the female persuasion. The original Wrestle Angels game featured 40 wrestlers but the PS2 version adds 70 Amazon grapplers for a total of 110 wrestlers in total. Features from the other Wrestle Angels game have also been included such as group management mode. Played in tactical management style instead of action based antics, the game allows players to recruit new girls, check the stats of wrestlers, and apportion funds to the development of the gals. With some seed money, the player grows a franchise from a fledgling operation to a renowned wrestling franchise. The aim of the game is match creation where wrestlers are pitted against each other over the course of a season. Winning bouts will lead to earnings and increased popularity which in turn boosts the purses that the wrestlers may potentially win. As the popularity of a league of wrestlers grows in repute and renown, players may keep the momentum going by signing new wrestlers and creating new matches which energize the audience. Funds may also be used to expand facilities to better train the girls. View the back cover and screenshots on the main NCSX website. NCS Game Notes » In the intro to the game, the cheer of a crowd sounds off and the camera does a blurry take on a wrestling ring as confetti falls. The words "Angel Strikes Again" is spiked across the screen. The scene changes to a view of the wrestling angels who appear as anime characters in still poses. A rotating view of the wrestling ring is shown between snippets of the gals as they raise their arms and clown for the camera in static gestures. There's an obligatory bikini sequence as well where winsome wrestlers appear on the beach. The closing shot is of the wrestling ring and a "Champion belt" before the title screen appears. The theme song of the game is "Starry Eyes" which plays during the intro. » Press Start and the following options appear: MANAGEMENT Main game where the player takes over management of a group of women wrestlers. By using promotions, savvy match making, and acquisitions, the manager maneuvers his group to the top of the women's wrestling food chain. SPECIAL MATCH Choose wrestlers for a single 1-on-1, 2-on-2, or 3-on-3 match and fight it out. If playing the 2-on-2 or 3-on-3 match, the bout becomes a tag match. ONE NIGHT TOURNAMENT Manage a single night's worth of 1-on-1, 2-on-2, or 3-on-3 battles and watch the action unfold. A total of 16 wrestlers are available. OPEN LEAGUE Manage a 1-on-1, 2-on-2, or 3-on-3 match with results day by day as the gals battle and win points. A total of 16 wrestlers are available. GALLERY View 19 pages worth of wrestler images with 9 images on each page. Note that all of the images must be unlocked by meeting conditions in the game modes. OPTION Set sound (stereo/mono), voice (on/off), BGM level, message speed, and Dual Shock vibration. SAVE ◦ LOAD Store and retrieve data from memory card. » After starting a MANAGEMENT game, players are asked to create a group name and select a wrestling logo from 8 possible choices. We chose the one with the unicorn rising up on the bottom row. Players also select their base of operations on a map of Japan and the game kicks off at a sunny office where a purple-haired assistant cheerfully greets the new manager. From the office, all tasks may be performed including auditioning new girls, setting up matches, promotions, and all the tasks that management is saddled with. » The earnings power of the wrestlers increase as they make it to more vaunted venues where the audience pays big bucks to see them in action. » Matches are fought by selecting moves from cards. Each wrestler starts with a hand of 5 cards lined up on the bottom of the screen. As the gals pull off moves, they are shown in static images accompanied with voice acting and move sequences that are shown on four panels. Despite the static presentation, the sound effects and kinetic editing create a somewhat exciting match that lasts about about 5 minutes. Each girl has a HP gauge on the top screen as well as meters for hands and legs. When an opponent's gauge drops to nil, it's time to do a pin move to end the match. » Instead of selecting the moves and options for a gal during a wrestling match, players may allow the COM to determine all moves and card selections. Press either the L1 or L2 trigger before each match to toggle automatic play and relegate yourself to spectator status. » Attractive winning pose screens are shown after each successful match. After a tournament is won, the winning wrestler is shown in front of a large gold-colored "Congratulations" sign. This document is ©NCSX 2006. All rights reserved.
