Update: March 23, 2006 «©NCSX» The Koei empire was built in the 80s on the backs of games such as Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Nobunaga's Ambition, and other war strategy + resource allocation games for the PC and the Famicom. The company found a new niche in 1997 when it released Sangoku Musou on the Playstation and established an enduring franchise that's still going strong nearly a decade later. With the "Empires" series of games, Koei melds the old school with new school where strategy and hack 'n slashing commingle for gaming fusion. The unification of China is the ultimate goal in Shin Sangoku Musou 4 Empires where 25 disparate territories are to be conquered under your crest. By using diplomacy, good governing principles, alliances, and war, the player raises his kingdom from wannabe to regional powerhouse and eventual ruler of the whole country. Features in SSM4 Empires include the ability to give direct orders to officers on the battlefield, selecting which song plays during a level, a rehashed character creation utility, free mode, fiction mode, and much of the same rules from the previous installment carry over in this new release (time limits, policies, ranking system, etc).
