Update: January 25, 2007 «©NCSX» Released last year in arcades and on the USA PS2, the Japanese PS2 version of DDR SuperNOVA finally makes it to market. The game sports a 70+ song list with catchy tracks such as "Centerfold" from Captain Jack, "Golden Sky" by SMILE.dk which has a "Butterfly-esque" hook, "Modern Girl" by Sheena Easton which gets cut off too soon, and "Girl in a Day Dream" by Pandora. There's also a dance mix version of "What a Wonderful World" from Beatbox vs DJ Miko that's hot. A new diversion in DDR SuperNOVA is the 2-Player Battle Mode where the player challenges the COM or a second player in a side by side competition. As you collect PERFECT and GREAT rankings, a laser from the top of the screen attacks your opponent by blinking out the cue arrows at the top of the screen, speeding up arrows, shuffling arrows around, and causing arrows to stutter-step in tricky ways. The Diet Mode allows players to enter their weight and track caloric expenditure when dancing to songs. For beginners who haven't the foggiest idea of how to play DDR, the Tutorial Mode patiently guides dancers through the basics of stepping, double-stepping, freezing, and step sequencing. The alternative SKU # for this product is VW335-J1. View the back cover and screenshots on the main NCSX website.
NCS Game Notes » On the title screen, a guy yells out, "Dayance Dayance Revolution!" while the DDR SuperNOVA logo appears dead center and atom-like appendages appear in the background with light coursing through them.» Leave it alone and a "How to Play" demonstration sequence is played which shows how to react to the cues. On the left, arrows float upwards while a virtual dancer does her best on the right side of the screen. Leave it alone again and a bruva with a big afro and gold shades hops and steps to a sprightly song. He pumps his arms up alot and kicks it like Travolta. » Press START and the following options pop up in English: Stellar Master Mode Game Mode Diet Mode Advanced Mode Training Mode Edit Mode Records Options Shop » The Stellar Master Mode tutorial is somewhat amusing to watch because the announcer speaks in rapid-fire Japan-English to explain the method of playing the game and uses English words like timing, panel, jump, and step which are mixed in with the Japanese speech. The game will show a demo first and then you're prompted to follow the cues for single steps, double steps, freeze steps, and step sequences. If you do good, you'll get a "JUST!" to notify you that you hit the cue on time. » The three areas in Stellar Master Mode are Popcorn, Glow, and Uguisu which each contain different song selections. » A total of 65 songs are available at the outset of the game (spread across the different modes) but additional tracks may be unlocked by meeting conditions. » In the Advanced Mode, players may play a BATTLE Mode against a second player or CPU and a NON-STOP mode where song after song is played in a steady progression. In Diet Mode, you enter your weight and kcal per day. After playing a song such as Golden Sky in Difficult Mode, you'll burn up a whopping 7.775kcal.

» The "billboard" for the Sheena Easton "Modern Girl" song shows a woman's foot in a high heel that looks like it's stepping out. But the lyrics in the song clearly state, "But tonight I'm gonna stay at home and watch my TV...."» Levels of difficulty for each song are: Beginner, Basic, Difficult, Expert, and Challenge. » After finishing each song, you're ranked with a letter grade and your steps are counted and categorized into groups as follows: MARVELOUS PERFECT GREAT GOOD ALMOST BOO O.K. Your MAX COMBO is also tracked. » In our opiniong, the best video dancer is the blonde in the blue-white striped shirt, red hot pants, belt with a star buckle, and white stockings. She moved the most convincingly. Sort of like a tall Betty Boop. » Words of encouragement from the announcer include "Mahvelous," "You're no ordinary fellow," "Yes...Yes...YESSS," and "Grab My Heart." » In Game Mode, you may play SINGLE on one DDR controller, VERSUS against a second player on his/her own controller, or DOUBLE where you master and move across two dancing controllers. Difficulty levels range from Easy, Medium to Hard. A tutorial is available along with an ALL MUSIC mode. » If you blow it, the word "Failed" slams across the screen and the announcer sputters, "Wh-Wh-What?" This document is ©NCSX 2007.
