Update: August 30, 2007 «©NCSX» The music continues to play in Beatmania IIDX 13 which features a chiaroscuro color scheme for its overriding visual theme. It seems like only yesterday when Konami had to announce a special preorder campaign for Beatmania IIDX 7th Style to ensure there was enough consumer interest in the game. Six releases later, the series is still going strong with a dedicated core of fans who continue to support each new BMIIDX game. BMIIDX 13 Distorted features a diverse and laudable 88-song track list which includes revivals, new songs, and fan favorites including "BOOM BOOM DISCO NIGHT" by Y&Co., "EURO-ROMANCE" from K-MASERA, "OUTER LIMITS" courtesy of L.E.D.-G, "Shoot'Em All," by Manabu Namiki, and "Bloody Tears (IIDX EDITION)" from DJ YOSHITAKA. The spectrum of music genres covered in the game run from Noise Pop to Italo House to Buchiage Trance. For gamers who enjoy a little Electronica, there's "MINT" by SLAKE to jam with. Lest we forget, "Samba de Janeiro" is not in there. Get over it. The usual gamut of game modes in BMIIDX 13 are Training, Beginner, Standard, Expert, and Ranking. To see how you stack up against a horde of arcade Bemaniacs, Konami collected rival data from 10,000 players within a month's time earlier this year. NCS Game Notes » The intro to the game is in black and white and features a big BMIIDX Distorted Logo. The title screen is also entirely in black and white and shades of gray. When playing the game, the "Game Over" screen is also in black and white and the score console is metallic shades of gray. » Press START and the words "You're the DJ of this gig" appear before the colorful Controller Setup screen appears. Choose to play with a Dual Shock 2 controller, a BM Controller in Original 7Keys, or Original 5Keys for Player 1 and 2 and you're off to the races. Next, select the Screen Settings by choosing ARCADE mode (16:9 aspect) or ORIGINAL mode (4:3 aspect). Name entry follows which concludes the setup process. » The selections on the MENU SELECT screen are as follows: STANDARD, EXPERT, DAN, BEGINNER, FREE, TRAINING, ORIGINAL, GALLERY, STATS & RECORDS, OPTIONS, CUSTOMIZE, RIVAL DATA MANAGEMENT, SAVE & LOAD » When choosing the music tracks, you can filter the selections by choosing "DISTORTED" or "OLD MUSIC" to only see the selections under those two categories. There's also an "ALL MUSIC" option to view everything at once. » The GALLERY section contains 65 pieces of artwork - only one image of a green DJ is available for viewing at the outset and the rest must be unlocked. » The ORIGINAL mode allows you to select the songs for five stages along with their NORMAL, HYPER, or ANOTHER variants. The default song that's filled in all five stages is Zenius -I- vanisher. » To modify the speed of the cues, press and hold the START button and a slider appears out of the right side of the cue screen. To select the speeds, press either R1 or R2 to set the speed from 0.5 all the way up to 5.0... the latter of which is insane. We had a fun time playing and watching "Bloody Tears" at 5.0 speed this morning. » Cue rankings range from POOR, BAD, GOOD, and GREAT. This document is ©NCSX 2007. All rights reserved.
