Update: June 28, 2006 «©NCSX» The tragic tale of estranged sisters Aya and Saki resumes this week with a re-interpretation of Oanechan Bara 2 which was released in December of 2005. As the story begins, Aya has saved Saki but the younger girl has lost hefty pints of blood and is fading in and out of consciousness. At the hospital, her condition worsens and the doctors order her immediate transfer to another hospital that's more capable of handling her critical state. While en route to the new facility, the ambulance is attacked and Saki is spirited away. When Aya arrives at the scene of the crime, all that's left is a blood splattered ambulance. Who has taken Saki? Will Aya contact the authorities and file a missing persons report? Can Aya swing her sword and lop off zombie limbs with quick chop-chop motion? Played in 3D and more versatile than the original, the Oanechan 2 features new characters to use including the mighty Riho Futaba who wears an aqua-colored bikini and performs scissor kicks with wild abandon. When surrounded by a crowd of zombies, look up at the area map on the upper right corner of the screen to check out the density of attackers. Every undead is represented by a red dot. Eviscerate one and watch it blink out of existence on screen and from the radar. Jan Code: 4527823993914 View the back cover and screenshots on the main NCSX website.
NCS Game Notes » Tamsoft developed the game for D3P. Tamsoft is best known for their Toshinden games for the original Playstation.» In the newly added game intro, a big moon appears overhead and the camera pans down on a face-off between Riho and Aya. The two Amazons circle each other while surrounded by zombies who play the role of spectators. Aya makes a run towards Riho, leaps up, and their swords clash. Aya manages to smack Riho's sword out of her hand and it arcs through the air and into the back of a hapless zombie. Who drops dead. Dead again. Riho quickly recovers her blade and proceeds to runs towards Aya but before a blow can be enacted, the intro changes to a view of the main characters in quick cut sequences where they're slashing along with views of deteriorating zombies. Scene shift to a another face off between Aya and Riho as they run towards each other and their swords meet. The title screen appears soon afterwards. » Upon starting a new game, the following selections appear: STORY / Select Riho or Reiko and leap into the meat and potatoes of Oanechan Pon. SURVIVAL / Set inside a dungeon, Aya and Riho battle endless waves of zombies that erupt from the ground PRACTICE / Select Aya or Riho and train in the arts of hack, slash, and special attacks QUEST / Twelve quests await which feature various targeted objectives to accomplish (Must be unlocked) OPTION / Set difficulty, Stereo/Mono, Volume levels, Dual Shock vibration, Load/Save » CONTROLS SQUARE / Sword slash TRIANGLE / Upward Kick X-BUTTON / Jump. Press again for a double jump. O-BUTTON / Throw star (Aya) or Deadly glimmer (Riho) L1-TRIGGER / Swish sword to knock gore and blood clots off R1-TRIGGER / Target enemy and lock on L2-TRIGGER / Switch character on the fly R2-TRIGGER / Switch character on the fly » The STORY mode of the game begins with only two selectable characters - Reiko and Riho. If playing with Riho, the game starts with a static background image of zombies while text slowly scrolls upwards accompanied by a voice over which lays down the background story. The first stage takes place inside a graveyard where its residents have all climbed out and are ready to live it up. Get to work and cut them down. After the little army is defeated, the gate to the graveyard opens and heroine climbs a flight of stairs and she's greeted by a vulture at the top. » When attacking a zombie, the first blow lops it's head off which plops onto the ground with a squishy meaty sound. An energetic stream of blood spurts from the neck wound and laps the ground. The zombie stands there, headless and slowly wavering and to end its misery, chop it twice to remove its arms and another few gallons of blood. The fourth blow splits it in half from the torso as it groans an ominous death rattle. » When Riho runs away, her bosoms flop up and down with jelly-like consistency. If you leave her alone and don't touch any controls, she'll lean back with her sword over her head and sigh. As if boredom had set in. Riho can perform a scissor kick where she leaps up and splits her legs in opposing directions but it's not very useful in terms of causing damage. When she's at the apex of the scissor kick, she looks like a deranged starfish. Riho also wears high heels during her zombie killing drama. » Pressing the slashing button four times in quick succession will lead to a chained sword attack which is enough to eviscerate any zombie. Some zombies who lose their torsos will still walk - the creature consists only of legs and waist but it can still do damage by lifting up a leg and kicking. » The condition of a heroine's sword may be viewed by checking the blade on the left side of the screen. If it's crimson to the top of the weapon, press the L1 trigger to knock the blood from it. If the sword isn't cleaned after its caked with blood, its efficacy is greatly reduced. When swishing a blade clean of clots, the ochre will splash down on the ground in a thick swath. » When Riho is the recipient of a blood bath of her own doing, dripping rivulets of blood may be seen streaming from her mouth and neck, onto her breasts and belly, before splattering onto the ground. Continue in the killing and she'll eventually become even more drenched in blood and seemingly bleed from every orifice on the upper portion of her body. As she loses health, she'll begin to slouch and lose her erect girlish posture. » In the original Oanechan Bara 2 game from Dec. 2005, only the helmeted biker chick Reiko was playable in the STORY MODE of the game while only Aya was selectable in the SURVIVAL MODE at the outset of gaming. » The in-game song has been changed to a somewhat chipper Japanese j-pop song from the original morose "C'mon.... Yeahhh" song described in NCS' write-up for the original Oanechan Bara 2 game. » The zombies featured in the Oanechan 2 game are a varied lot. There are women undead in pretty pink dresses as well as gentlemen undead in business suits. Then there are the average joe undead in their colorful shirts with wide collars. » The cast of girls in the updated Oanechan is fairly impressive and include Riho Futaba in her trademark blue bikini, Riho's sister Makato, the helmeted gals known as Kiku and Hana from "The Senko," and many more. » Attacks generally blow zombies back and into the air. When it's dying time, a powerful sword slash will split targets into a mess of flying limbs and chunks. The blood spills liberally as the wholesale butchery unfolds on screen.
