Update: November 4, 2003 «©NCSX» Takanobu Terada, the producer of Super Robot Wars D and Super Robot Wars Alpha, and Kozo Igarashi who produced Evangelion and Kidou Senshi Gundam 0079 collaborate on a new Super Robot Wars game which takes the famous series from stutter-step 2-D grids to full-blown 3-D worlds. Scramble Commander revolutionizes the SRW games with a new direction.Join the crew, gang, and stalwarts of the Super Robot Wars games once again in tactical strategy battles which span the galaxy. Troop movement and positioning are handled on a lush visual 3-D world map but battles are shown in thrilling cinematic animations where special attacks, moves and other goodness are rendered in grand detail. Scramble Commander utilizes a new style of real-time strategic battling where the player becomes a troop commander who sends scout units on recon missions, heavily armored units on skirmishes and other fire fights. Beautifully rendered 3-D models and environments are featured in the game along with mecha and robots from many Sunrise, Toei, Gainax and Bandai animation series such as Combattler V, Dancougar, Evangelion, The End of Evangelion, Getter Robo, Great Mazinger, Gundam W, Gundam ZZ, Raideen, and Z Gundam. Early preorders for SRW Scramble Commander will include a bonus 56-page art/data booklet. Since we don't have enough to give one away to everyone, we scan a few pages and share the love. | The Otakami (4): Better Than I Thought It Was |
 |
| When I first ordered the game, I was unaware that it is an RTS (Real-Time-Strategy) game. When I first sat down to play it, I was disapointed that I could not directly control the robots. However, as I kept playing, I began to enjoy it more and more. It is a challenging game, but not so much that it becomes frustrating. Tactics & strategy are an absolute necessity for victory. You do control the 'Hissatsu' (sure win) attacks, such as Mazinger's Breast Fire and Dancougar's Dankuken (many affect anything in an area!), and you get a seperate cut scene for these. All robots are normal size (not SD, like other SRW games), and are relatively correct in proportion to each other (Raideen & Combattler tower over the Gundams & Mazingers). Robots are upgradable, so you can power up your favorites. The best thing about this game though, and the thing that kept me playing long enough to enjoy it, is the absolutely beautiful graphics! I have never seen a game with graphics this good (especially not a anime-licensed game)!! Everything is super-detailed, and the environments (true 3-D) are incredibly (it's really cool to see stuff come at you from out of the fog in some stages). In many games, the details on the robots look 'painted on' (such as panel lines, various parts, etc..), but in this game every little thing on the robots is a full 3-D object - Raideen's layered armor, Dancougar's cannons (front & back) and treads, Combattlers various parts, etc... And the shading!! Absolutely phenominal. The opening is about 5 minutes long, but it looks incredible, too! The game is fun for strategy-minded people, but it's worth it for the graphics alone! |
